@HabesBabe: I've stayed in a ton of nice hotels and in the moment, I thought maybe that was the nicest so far. I'm sure the others have just faded in my memory but seriously this was such an unexpected beauty. Loved it!

@808love: Ahhhh my husband and I just stayed at the Fairmont Kea Lani and I am still so much in love with that hotel. Unfortunately, it was a work "prize" so we'll never be able to afford to stay there again. LOL.

I'd vote for Maui or Oahu with your family dynamic. I think Big Island is great for active folks, and Kauai might be too sleepy. But my personal vote would be for Maui!

Also, if anyone has a suggestion for a travel agent. I usually book everything myself, but with trying to coordinate so many people, an agent might be helpful.
Thanks!

The Hyatt on Kauai is very comparable to Aulani I thought. Both are nice and you could never leave if you didn't want to. I like how small Kauai is... The Hyatt is very close to a park/beach area in Poipu. But the Hyatt itself has a pool with full kids amenities and lagoon (very similar to Aulani). Also check out Happy Kids + name of island if you want any babysitting. They work in all of the hotels. We used them when Our lo was 8 months old and we were very satisfied.

If you're planning to stay on Oahu, Aulani is probably your best option especially with the kids. I haven't stayed there myself, but I've had friends with kids that live on Oahu do staycations there and they loved it. Other higher end hotel options in town are The Kahala Hotel & Resort and the Halekulani, but I think those are geared more towards adults.
If you want to go to Maui, there's the Grand Wailea. That hotel is awesome for kids. They have a giant pool with slides and activities. I've stayed there a few times prebaby and had a great time. I can't wait to take my LO there when she gets older.

I won't be much help because I went to Kauai, rented a car, and stayed in a condo! Mrs. Checkers posted about Maui today:

Hi Ladies,
Looking for some Hawaii help. We are planning on going next June. There will be our family (DH, 5 year old son, & me), my brother's wife and family ( 2 elementary age children) and my mother in law. We are going for the week and want to be together with out stepping on each other. Looking at higher end resorts with lots for the kids to do. Not really interested in a condo where we would all stay together and have to get in the car to go do anything. I could be happy rarely leaving the resort. Right now Disney's Aulani is a top pick. What other suggestions and insight do you have?
Thanks!
