@prettylizy: of course you can

4) When I want something I move mountains to obtain/ attain it. I remember liking a really hot guy in college and had to figure out a way to get him to notice me. It was like "Dangerous Liasons" manipulating a situstion where we were finally in the same space thanks to a very loose connection to a friend of a roommate. Haha!

I'd like to say I give people a chance, but I probably cut my losses too quickly with no hard feelings of course. Climbing a mountain in the dark with a boy who hides me in the light would be an extreme case of sticking around, but there's something to be said for trying to see things through the end. I took from that having patience with people is a skill.

I'm going to join in this month-- rereading an old fave! :)

1) I knew she was a huge SNL star and seen her several movies and enjoyed her characters a lot. I like how she seems so laid back and "normal."

2)I don't agree that KK is the new standard of beauty, but I do agree that the media/celebrity definition of beauty is sooo skewed but viewed as the "norm" by the general female populus... I think her body image thoughts/issues/etc. are all the norm. Every female goes through them at some point in her life. I admire her acceptance and love for herself.

3) I've always felt younger inside than out, even when adult things were happening in my life, i felt like a kid watching things happen! LOL... I don't know that I've felt like a woman or adult until recent years; and that's after a house, marriage, and baby later!

4) I pick and choose my battles! If it's not worth it, I move on. There have been many circumstances as a female minority where I've had to cut my losses. But there have also been situations or circumstances that were worth the fight and meant something more to me.

1) I knew that Tina Fey was the "It Funny Girl." I saw Mean Girls, Baby Mama, and watched a few SNL skits, but not much else. I remember when 30 Rock came out and Tina was all over the place crowned as a media mogul. I am definitely the reader-type that wanted to gain some work advice, tips and tricks.

2) I was most surprised by how unaffected she seemed by her body image. We can have all find imperfections, but she understood that she was not the ideal image and moved on. I have always struggled with two hangs up: my full lips and my flat booty. Everything else on me is what it is. Tina's assessment that in the era where we embrace all figures hasn't yielded morr acceptance of our own figures and appearance, but rather a desire to have ALL of the most desirable figure and beauty attributes was dead on funny. Kim Kardashian is gorge, but I don't think she is necessarily the ideal woman.

3) I first felt like a woman when I applied to colleges on my own. I was 16/17 so call me a late bloomer, but the experience was totally liberating. My father was always overbearing when it came to education and by the time I was a teen our relationship soured. I knew college was the next step after HS, but I didn't want him to micro manage the process. I told him to back off and he complied.

Hope you are enjoying Tina Fey's Bossypants and jump into the Week 1 Discussion, which covers the "Introduction" through "My Honeymoon, or a Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again Either."

1) How much did you know about Tina Fey before reading the book? DId you identify with one of the reader-types she discussed in the "Introduction"?

2)Fey is very open and honest about her self-image and quest to fit in throughout her life. She also uses a lot of self-deprecating humor when she discusses her self-image and looks. Did her struggles surprise you? If so, what parts did you find most unexpected or impacting? Do you agree that Kim Kardashian is the new standard of beauty?

3) In the chapter titled “Growing Up and Liking It”, Fey asks the questions “When did you first know you were a women?”. In her experience with a group of women she recounted that, “almost everyone first realized they were becoming a grown woman when some dude did something nasty to them.” Does this resonate with your personal experience? If not, what was it that first make you realize you were were a woman?

4) Fey shares two stories one which she could not catch a break "Climb Old Rag Mountain" and one which she seized an opportunity in " Young Men's Christian Association." In your life do you hang in there or cut your losses? In your life do you daringly go for yours?

* Mr. Google helped with a few questions.
