Just tried the 35m in our living room. Get the stations but the video is staticky and no sound. Ugh.

We have this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008KVUAGU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it works great! We had a more expensive outdoor one at our old house and it wasn't nearly as good as this super cheap one. It doesn't work perfectly when it's raining but our old antenna used to go out every single time a car drove by which was so annoying.
ETA: we looked at a website to see what channels we could get and it was pretty accurate.

We have the Mohu Leaf (got it on amazon). It doesn't get a huge number of channels but we just use it to watch football games and we always seem to get that channel so we're happy with it.

@spaniellove: thanks! NBC is the farthest at 22*miles per some online site. I guess if I'm having issues I can always return and get the 50 mile version?

@regberadaisy: We got it through a Black Friday or some kind of holiday deal, and the stations are about 24 miles away so I figured the 35 mile antenna should be fine, which it mostly is. Don't know if it's our foyer or something else, but we feel like the 50 mile version could solve the problem!

(Combined with Netflix/Hulu, we're loving our independence from cable - I highly recommend it!)

@regberadaisy: We have an AmazonBasics antenna wired through our wall into the coat closet (because that's where all the electronics sit). For ABC though we have to bring it out and have it sit a little higher. Short term I think my husband wants to get the flat indoor antenna with a longer range, but long term we'll try to get the outdoor Mohu antenna and put it where our DirecTV dish used to be. Complicated!

We have an indoor one that was maybe $25? It sits in the window next to the TV. Sometimes reception is great, sometimes it cuts out a lot. Doesn't really bother me because it's pretty much only been used for football, which I have zero interest in.

we, like @mrs. wagon, have a cheapo antenna (with ears). It was free but they cost about $11 in store. They work great, we even get some OTA shopping channels like QVC and Home Shopping. :)

@wonderstruck: that is so weird!! But thank you for sharing!
A friend shared a site where I can input my zip and it'll tell me what local stations near me are broadcasting via antenna. Do you think that's a good sign of what channels I may get?

Looking to cancel cable to save $ but would like to at least get some basic channels on the TV on top of Internet streaming.

@yin: I'll be interested to see what that site tells you that you can get. It's not live but PBS does have a lot of their shows available online.

As someone who used to work in electronics, it's unfortunately quite impossible to tell what antenna is going to work best for you until you hook it up and try it out. I've has customers buy the cheapest antenna and had it pick up tons of channels, and then had another customer who literally lives down the street from them have the same exact antenna not work, and have to spend a ton of money on a really nice antenna. I've seen it happen so many times that I've given up on trying to understand antennas!

Didn't work for us. :( I'm not sure exactly which one DH bought, but it cost $40 and couldn't pick up any channels. Major bummer. I only had basic channels before canceling our subscription, but I miss tuning into PBS.
