I am 40 weeks today and baby has been head down the entire time. She doesn't seem anxious to come out anytime soon either!

count your contractions. i think my insurance company said if i get 4 within an hour, could be a sign of pre-term labor.

@MamaMoose: Where I am I don't pay, I suppose the goverment pays him. He knows I dislike him, and he will leave and not answer any questions whether I have a list with me or not, I've tried that.

@Navy_Mommy: Because I'm a higher risk (and will likely have Cameron early), I was told at the walk-in clinic I got my referral from that if he was head down to worry.

@Rosie Girl: I've already had braxton hicks a few times, but from the way they seemed they could have been real contractions (not painful, just tightening right about where normal cramps would be, 8 minutes apart, 30 seconds long on average)... My doctor doesn't seem to care.

I'm glad to see everyone thinks it's fairly normal. I guess I'll find out if the contractions come back or at my ultrasound in three weeks.

Your baby will move a lot. He can be head down one day, and breech the other. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If you start dilating, having contractions, effacing, and your baby engages, then I would be worried :)

i'm not there yet (21 weeks), and i think my babies were lying across the uterus, but i've seen the whattoexpect pictures and at week 24, they were head down. i'm guessing as long as the baby is fine being upside down, it's all good.

They told me they thought my daughter was head down (by feeling on my stomach) but I found out at 40 weeks by u/s that she was breech and was most likely breech the whole time. From my understanding it's difficult to tell by external exam if they are head down.
But it is normal to be head down. The baby is just getting ready. They can still turn and move around too so it may not stay head down.
Sorry you're having difficulty with your provider. I would share that with him, and hopefully he'll hear what you're saying and better address your concerns in the future.

Is there a reason you don't think its normal? They move around a lot in there, so for all you know in two weeks he'll be in a different position then go back to head down later on...

I'm not pregnant yet so I can't say if this is normal. Hopefully someone else can give you a helpful answer on that. I would hope your doctor would have said something if this was a concern.

But on the topic of your doctor at your next appointment in two weeks I would go with a list of questions written down that you really need the answers to. Be clear and firm and let him know that the appointment is not over until all of your questions are answered. Yes he is the doctor but you are essentially his customer. You are paying him for his services as an OB and you have every right to demand that he take the time to answer your questions.

I was at my 29 weeks doctor's appointment today and they did the standard weight, blood pressure, and heartbeat just like every other time. Then after he tells me Cameron's heartbeat is 138 and totally normal, that he's head down. Okay that's fine, but is it really fine? He told me he'd see me in two weeks and just left. So I'm left wondering is this normal that he's head down this early?

I know by technical terms I'm higher risk (previous miscarriages, abortion, used to smoke), but this doctor doesn't seem to care (and no I can't switch). He also doesn't answer any questions I have and the nurse is so busy playing receptionist she doesn't have time to.
