The cold compress on the back of my neck is my favorite-- I'm not even pregnant yet but now it's my favorite first line of defense if I'm at home. Also across my forehead helps a lot, and laying down in a dark room even for 15 minutes. And I second caffeine-- I just weaned myself off of it, in large part so that a little bit will feel like a lot when I get pregnant and get a headache. (Yes, that is my own personal logic, but I think it makes sense).

@photojane: We're about the same time along, I have been getting awful headaches since week 15, I literally had a headache for a week between 15w3d and 16w3d. It's a little better now but my doctor explained that it's because of the increased blood volume. NOTHING helped -- Tylenol, food, water, napping, etc. Finally I started using a cold compress on the back of my neck, that helped a little! Sorry to hear you're feeling crummy :(

I find that caffeine helps my headaches. My doctor even said that a diet soda or big thing of tea isn't a bad thing. Tylenol seldom works for me. Also, I second the massage!

I got a few migraines during my pregnancy and what helped me get through them was putting an ice pack on the back of my neck and taking a nap in a dark room. Also taking lots of warm baths seemed to help

I tried to rest and sleep it off as much as possible. I took Tylenol if it got unbearable but it usually didn't help too much.

I agree with lots of water! I'm convinced most of my headaches are dehydration or something related, so even pre-pregnancy, my first line of defense was a big glass of water (or more), and so far, that seems to be doing the trick now, too!

Heating pad, accupuncture, massage (after first trimester), peppermint oil..... and if you have to take a med then I would.

For me, I have to catch the headache in the beginning or it just gets worse and worse and then its too late and I could have stopped it with a tylenol but I didnt so I have to take something stronger. I know it sucks to take meds during pregnancy but sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks.

I use a nasal rinse because most of my headaches are related to allergies. I also use a warm cloth or wrap thing to ease the pressure. If I can get the sinuses open, my headaches go away.

I have the same problem. I miss Advil!!! I've been trying to grit through. Some things that help me are making sure to eat protein to start the day, and staying hydrated. Otherwise, maybe a cold compress on your forehead?

i was a huge pill popper pre-pregnancy. i hate being in any sort of pain, so as soon as a little bit of a headache came on... ibuprofen to the rescue! since being pregnant i've been trying to avoid medicine as much as possible. the past few nights i've been getting terrible headaches, and i'm so tempted to just pop a few tylenol.

does anyone have any home remedies for headaches?!
