For me, there's typically 3 causes - grinding my teeth at night, not drinking enough water and not getting enough sleep.

I get bad headaches from sinuses (I can tell these because it starts with a lot of pressure in my head that gets worse if I bend over), allergies (more physical symptoms, like sneezing and itchy eyes), and migraines from fronts (these are the worst...I can usually catch them early with Excedrin, but I feel very off for days). I sometimes randomly get migraines around ovulation/right before my period, so hormone-related, but not every month.

@ballerinabee: @snowjewelz: I get wicked sinus headaches from weather changes too- it's the worst! Sudafed (the real stuff you have to ask the pharmacist for, not the stuff out on the shelf) and Advil or Tylenol helps enough to take the edge off, especially with a little caffeine.

I also get stress/ tension headaches. And I used to get them from bad posture a lot but not having a desk job has helped that a lot, plus I did PT for my weak back in general.

Acupuncture helped my headaches a lot in general. If you are getting them a lot it could be worth trying!

I used to get migraines "randomly" & figured out they were hormone/cycle related by tracking them. They'd always come before my period. They also all started behind my eye and got worse. I would take Advil and have to lay in a dark room, putting pressure on my eyes. Now I'm on different birth control and don't get them anymore!

Sometimes I get headaches in the front, starting in my forehead. Those are almost always from dehydration, so I take Advil or Tylenol and drink a bunch of water.

@ballerinabee: Ugh, I suspect I get those a lot too then... B/c I will try something different every four hours (or double up on whatever I can take simultaneously), and sometimes nothing helps either. I just gave up with this headache... Bleh!

@snowjewelz: unfortunately for me, nothing helps the sinus pressure headaches. I've tried sinus decongestants, sinus pressure meds, nasal sprays, pain killers, steaming in the shower or over a pot of hot water. Honestly, not much gives me relief. Probably the steaming helps the most. I just suffer until the weather front passes :crying:

I don't usually get headaches from drinking unless I drink more than I should, but there's something about draft beer from certain places that gives me nasty headaches even if I just have one. There's a theory about the sulfur used to clean the tap lines being the culprit, but I'm not sure. I'm not sensitive to sulfa drugs, and red wine with sulfites only gives me a headache if I drink too many glasses. I'm just weird, I guess

@mrskc: DH keeps telling me since all my headaches are in the front, they are all sinus headaches, so I kept taking allergy meds too, but they don't always help either! Hungry headache?! LOL!

@catlady: I'm guessing my are PMS... Never had them before kids! So my theory will be proven if I get my period today/tomorrow..

@ballerinabee: Haha, alcohol totally gives me headaches. So if you get the pressure headaches, what do you take?

I know that 2 things trigger different kinds of headaches for me. I get migraines from aspartame and sucralose, and my sinus headaches rage when the barometric pressure changes from inclement weather.

Oddly enough, draft beer from certain bars gives me wicked headaches, even if I only have 1!

Usually. I got headaches all the time as a child/teen, and it took for forever to figure it out, but it turns out that I was dehydrated pretty much all the time. I make an effort to drink a ton of water these days, but I can usually tell when I forget to drink enough and end up with a headache.

The only other reasons I get headaches these days are that I'm ovulating, PMSing, or had alcohol the night before (I can barely have any before getting a headache).

yea, sometimes I can figure it out. I get a lot of headaches too. For me I realized 2 years ago that allergies were giving me headaches so I have to take allergy meds all spring. Also I get headaches with too bright of sun and not wearing sunglasses. OH and if I get too hungry, I get a headache. ugh

Are you good about figuring out what's causing your headaches?

I have sooo many random headaches and migraines and I'm so tired of never being able to figure out why to take right medicine!
