I had the headaches too, they were scary bad. One of my doctors said I wasn't at risk for preeclampsia because neither of my parents had high blood pressure. I did develop it but not until my 39th week and was induced.

@Mrs. Champagne: good call. I wanted to go back for acupuncture because I loved it, but there isn't anyplace super close and I don't have a babysitter. But I know of a nearby chiropractor that doesn't mind if you bring your kid so maybe I will try that.

I had headaches until 17 weeks when I went to the chiropractor and she fixed me. Pretty much headache free after that! And I had them non stop until then.

@Ms. RV: that's just what I wanted to know, thank you! They are definitely improved with Tylenol (if not I would have called for sure). Not all better but it more than takes the edge off. The weather was kind of crazy today which is also a big headache trigger for me so I think it's just a super fun combo of stress, tired, weather, and not eating and drinking enough.

Still bringing it up with the midwife next week but I don't feel like I need to call right now.

@Foodnerd81: I've been having migraines and headaches lately and asked the OB. She said that a preeclampsia headache won't improve with tylenol. If you get even a little relief from tylenol, you're good.

@Foodnerd81: yup, I've gotten mine checked at
CVS and a local chain of pharmacies in NYC called Duane Reade. Any pharmacist can do it :)

I had headaches the weekend before I was induced for hypertension and protein in my urine. I was turning pre-e. I would call your midwife. I was also seeing stuff and having vertigo

@Trailmix: like a local cvs? I really don't think it's something serious especially since it's improved with Tylenol, water, and rest, but I might walk up there later while we are out. Thanks for describing your symptoms.

You can get your BP checked at any pharmacy, just FYI. I had Pre-E and it was a bad headache that did not improve with Tylenol plus fatigue, floating spots and general 'off' feeling. It sounds like from your past that this is an unfortunate pregnancy side effect and not pre-e but it's worth checking BP to be sure!

I ended up with severe pre-e and never had a single headache. My OB was much more concerned with what my BP was and if there was protein in my urine.

I hope you figure out something that helps yours though as they sound like no fun!

@Foodnerd81: yeah I'd had them before but not with the frequency that I was getting them while pregnant. Migraines like that also run in my family which may be why my doc didn't look into it too much but I still believe it was body trying to communicate with me. (But really, who actually knows? lol) I hope you're able to get them under control

Can you go check your blood pressure? If it's normal, I wouldn't worry...if it's higher than 140/90, I would get in touch with your mid-wife!

@Mrs. Sunshine: many years ago I used to get a visual aura before a migraine, with blind spots like you mention. I had had one in years but had it happen recently. Amazingly a Tylenol and a big regular coke took care of it.

@wrkbrk: yeah it sucks. I've never had horrible morning sickness or thrown up, though, so I guess it's a trade off? Luckily Dh is home and taking care of the toddler while I lay in bed.

Starting to think part of this mornings headache is that I just didn't eat. I had a small dinner last night and was lazy and didn't make breakfast until later. In so sick of drinking extra fluids though!

@Foodnerd81: Just popping in to commiserate. I have been having pretty frequent headaches as well. My levels of everything are fine so far and my doctor also said to just drink more water. Yours sound awful. I hope they ease up. :(

Well I had insane headaches with LO...I had them so bad that I would get blind spots and would only be able to see half my face when I looked in the mirror and one time it was so bad I literally forgot how to read and was freaking the hell out. This went on starting g around 25 weeks but my BP and urine was always normal until about 38 weeks when I was induced due to pre-e. I'd keep bringing it up.

@lawbee11: yeah they check both at every appointment. Never been at all concerning with either pregnancy.

@MamaBehr: well I have had bad headaches even before pregnancy. Did acupuncture during the first one and I pretty much got a reprieve from second trimester with my now 2 year old until this pregnancy. So the fact that I'm getting headaches again isn't that surprising I don't think. But the sudden way these came on this morning is new. The fact that Tylenol is helping makes me think it's just a sucky thing to deal with. Also, they are always worse in times of stress and lack of sleep. Did I mention the 2 year old just moved to the big bed? :crying:

Man, this sucks. I just hope the headaches calm down soon. I can't even imagine having them this frequently, my headache last weekend was so bad I can't imagine having them all the time.

I can't believe your midwife isn't more concerned.

Have they been monitoring your blood pressure and taking urine samples? My OB was concerned about preeclampsia so kept a really close eye on these two things in particular. If your BP is ok and no protein in your urine I would assume it's fine but definitely keep bringing it up with them!

How do you know when to be concerned about bad headaches during pregnancy and preeclampsia?

I had bad headaches during my last pregnancy, and had them even worse with this one. I mentioned t to my midwife, but basically same advice as always, drink more water. They've been better for a few weeks but a new one started last night, woke up at 5 with a headache so severe I wondered if I should go to the ER- but two Tylenol and another hour of sleep did the trick so I probably was overreacting. Exactly 4 hours later it came back with such force it brought me to tears, but eating and drinking and a few more Tylenol brought it back to a just barely tolerable level.

I don't actually think this is a real problem, other than being really uncomfortable, but how do you know when to actually be concerned? I'll ask at my next midwife appt too.

(And I just had an ultrasound this week and everything looked perfect and baby has been moving around plenty this morning).
