@leighleigh: My doctor told me to eat a snack with fat, protein, and sugar in it. So I started drinking fruit smoothies with Greek yogurt and a spoonful of coconut oil everyday. Really nice in the hot weather and really helped, as did a sweetened caffeinated beverage.

Have you thought about seeing a chiropractor, therapeutic massage, or acupuncture? I started to get bad headaches early 2nd tri in my first pregnancy and these things all helped immensely. I had a severe headache the other day at almost 12 weeks pg - the first headache with this pregnancy - and my doctor prescribed tylenol with codeine to take that day and also hooked me up to an IV bag. I do think that dehydration plays into it a lot too!

@leighleigh: never to the point of throwing up, but I got really bad headaches through to at least 20 weeks or so. I took so much Tylenol and really worried about it. I agree to be really diligent about water, even when you are so freaking sick of water and peeing. I also tried to keep an eye on sugar and caffeine during the day- I think possibly I would feel crappy, so have something sugary at nap time (mid day) then after the sugar wore off, the headache would get even worse. On the flip side, sometimes a small coke would help take the edge off the headache. I also saw a chiropractor since a lot of my headaches were tension related too. I'm sure a massage would have helped but the chiro was easier to schedule.

Last time I did several sessions of acupuncture and it was amazing, but too hard to schedule with a toddler and no childcare. Seriously worked wonders though.

Oh and the usual laying in a dark room, cool compress on forehead or back or your neck, and hot shower on back of your neck and shoulders, helped some. Good luck, it can be so debilitating, right as you think it's supposed to be getting better!

@JoyfulKiwi: thank you! I have been bad about water lately so that could definitely be the culprit. I have a message out to my doctor but glad to see others have gone through it too.

I had migraines in my second trimester. My midwife said it's a common pregnancy ailment and I drasticalky increased my water intake (from 2 to 3 liters). It helped a lot. I'd recommend talking to your doctor and in the meantime, more water & Tylenol/rest!

i had that with my last and current pregnancy. horrible migraines that sometimes last for a couple of days and sometimes vomiting. I sympathize. All i can do is rest, drink lots of water, stay out of extreme hot weather, and avoid TV/computer screens.

Has anyone else been experiencing bad headaches upon beginning your second trimester? Mine have gotten so bad that it causes vomiting. I'm nearly positive it isn't morning sickness--its strictly related to the headache. Feeling a little sad because even though I wasn't too sick in my first tri, I thought the second trimester was supposed to be easier!?
