I feel your pain. I have a major headache today along with nausea. I just finally took some Tylenol it never used to do anything for me either but has helped some in pregnancy. I broke down and got a caffeinated diet coke. I have been drinking them occasionally.

My OB mentioned headaches can be a problem from 12 to 20 weeks. I guess it's starting early for us. My nausea started a bit early at around five weeks. Ugh.

I will definitely have to try Tylenol next time, it sounds like it worked for a lot of you ladies where it didn't before! And I might try a bit of caffeine next time, too... even though DH yells at me whenever I crave a Diet Coke ;)

My SIL had terrible headaches during her first trimester and she used to sip on a coke when she would feel one coming on and it was usually enough to curb the headache. I hope you feel better dear and that the headaches stop soon!

Yeah, caffeine definitely helps. And for me, Tylenol never touched my migraines before I got pregnant, but now it at least takes the edge off, if nothing else. My OB did tell me that if they get worse, she'll write me a script for Fioricet.

I'm not how you feel about caffeine during pregnancy but something my doctor suggested to me during a bad headache was to go buy a pop to get some caffeine in you. You don't necessarily have to drink the whole thing or drink a loaded one like mountain dew, just something to give you a little help with the headache.

@Foodnerd81: The ice pack DID help! Well, I couldn't quite do ice, but I got a wet paper towel that I kept on the back of my neck and I kept cooling it on my fan... it really helped a lot. And massaging my jaw, and my neck/shoulders frequently.

Ugh, it already seems like I'm drinking a TON of water. I have a 20-oz bottle that I go through about once an hour. And eating a lot... *check.*

If it is really bad take some Tyenol, that usually helps me. Otherwise up your water even more, your body is working overtime right now (I still have to average 100-130 oz a day to prevent jitters/headaches.) Some people just need more. And when I was at 5 weeks, I was eating A LOT it seemed like, munching usualy helped, along with rubbing my temples!

I had read this read earlier, then woke up this morning with a horrible headache. I'm not pregnant, but trying to cut back on medicines in general for when I am, so I tried the ice pack on the back of my head-- its wonderful. I did end up taking Advil Migraine, but the ice pack helped some immediately.

I've been taking 1 500mg Tylenol now that I'm further along. I did the same thing when I was having some pretty bad pain in the first trimester, as well. I was shocked that it helped! It never worked for me in the past but I was so miserable, I had to try it. Glad I did.

tyelenol never worked for me before i was pregnant either. that's another reason i didn't take it for my first 2 migraines. but on the third horrible one, i decided to give it a try and it worked. maybe cuz i hadn't taken anything in so long at that point? i used to take like 3 - 4 advil at a time in the past!

Tylenol doesn't work for me, either...Advil is my miracle drug. Can you turn off the lights in your work area? When I get mine light intensifies the pain.

@PurpleUnicorn: I don't know why, but Tylenol has never worked for me. It figures that the one safe thing to take does nothing ;) But I may ask about Fioricet next week.

I did manage to get it to calm down somehow. But now it's back, and yet I'm still staying up late squinting at my laptop screen ;)

acetaminophen/tyelenol is safe to take during pregnancy. I avoided it and suffered for my first few migraines because i didn;t think it would work and i didn't want to get in the habit, and the headaches were on a weekend. But when i woke up on a work day with my worst migraine yet(even got sick from it), i sucked it up and took tyelenol and it worked! i also have coffee when i have headaches and at the very minimum, it reduces its intensity.

Extra strength tylenol, or you can ask your doctor for fioricet. Also, I signed up for a massage membership when I was pregnant which was great, but I'd ask if it's ok during the first trimester. I waited until the 2nd. And peppermint oil. You rub it on your temples or where the pain is. Good luck, hope you feel better!

I got really bad allergy/sinus headaches when pregnant because of the increased mucus I guess. I ended up having to take daily claratin and sudafed on the weekends. It helped SOOOO much.

Mine have been pretty bad too. Sometimes it helps to switch to gatorade instead of water or to have another snack. Chocolate might help too...it has just a bit of caffeine. I don't have any great answers though since I still have a headache right now! (I'm 7w5d).

@Alivoo01: Good idea, but that doesn't do anything for me -- once I have the headache, walking around, fresh air etc. doesn't help. :(

Also, stretch your jaw throughout the day. And I read that if you have jaw tension it can help to place a wine cork between your upper and lower teeth and let your teeth rest on it. It let's your jaw rest for a few minutes. Although you may want to close your door first if you do it at work!!! :)

I've been having headaches too. I stretch my neck a lot to make sure muscle tension isn't making it worse. Also, I use a cold pack on my neck and/or forehead, which helps. Even though I thought I was drinking a lot of water, I started drinking more (like I'm never without a full glass by my side between 6am until 8pm). That helps the most.

Could you maybe step away from your desk/cube and take a quick little walk or get some fresh air? It'll let you take some deep breaths and re-collect yourself from the stressful situation.

I've been getting pretty wicked headaches the past couple of days -- I'm eating frequently and keeping hydrated, but they come anyway. I'm pretty prone to headaches as it is, but I would typically take Excedrin or Ibuprofen, neither of which I can take right now.

If I was at home, I would just lay down, but I can't do that at work, and I can't afford a sick day right now with me only being 5 weeks along. I'm sure I'll be sicker than this eventually :)

So does anybody have any pregnancy-safe tips for dissipating headaches? I can feel tension in my jaw so it's probably related to stress, but once it comes on, there's usually so little I can do.
