My first trimester diet was completely random. I was generally able to eat mac and cheese, which I tried to convince myself was marginally healthy since the cheese had calcium. I could occasionally eat it with peas thrown in, so that's a few veggies there. I also usually (not always) tolerated pizza. I generally did okay with an organic spinach frozen pizza from Trader Joe's...which again I reasoned was better than a diet of all crackers.

Otherwise I pretty much was unable to eat veggies all first tri, and am only now at 17 weeks reincorporating them into my diet. If you can tolerate V8 juice, you could try that.

Rice - especially brown if you can stomach it and bananas! I've been finding(luckily) that anything sweet makes me want to gag and sprite has been my savior. I gave up soda years ago and go figure it's the only thing that helps me keep down lunch and dinner

I had major food/smell aversions during the first tri. I would have been perfectly content not eating & didn’t have an appetite anyway! My normal diet pre-pregnancy included a lot of veggies and not a ton of meat, but that went out the window starting at 6 weeks.
Things that worked for me:
Baked potatoes – carbs but at least minerals & vitamins too. Added sour cream for some calories & calcium.
Hamburgers – I skipped mayo & cheese, but added avocados & tomatoes
Fruit & yogurt – for some reason I LOVED canned peaches & pears. Not the best but better than nothing.

I did find that most of my issues with food came from the smell of cooking it. So I pretty much resorted to take-out or cold items so that I wouldn’t get grossed out during the cooking/prep process. Realizing that was a huge help & still is. I’m almost in my third tri and still can’t eat cooked veggies!

I switched to wheat pasta during my first tri and called it a win ;) Only carbs and sour patch kids went down and stayed there. I just tried to substitute healthier options whenever I could stomach it, but started really craving healthy food once I hit the second trimester, so I figured it all balanced out in the end.

I could SOMETIMES eat citrus fruit and smoothies in the first tri. But even that was rare. The most veggies I was getting was on top of pizza...And my diet normally consists mostly of fruits/veggies.

I also ate whatever I could stomach for the first 2 trimesters. Which meant I went through many bags of animal crackers.

The only healthy food I've wanted in the first tri is avocados so that might be worth a try. I usually have just made avocado toast for a snack and it was yummy.

Thanks! I feel better about it now. I'm trying to be conscious about my eating so I don't balloon up, but I guess the little one will take any nourishment I'll give him/her right now.

For me, first trimester was all about plain pasta with butter, white rice and crackers. By the second trimester I was craving fruit and salads and it was basically all I ate.

I too craved carbs mainly my first trimester - pasta, fries (omg, fries), pizza, etc. It wasn't until my second and third trimester I started eating "healthier". It balances itself out. Don't worry too much about it.

I usually eat a pretty balanced diet but all I could stomach was junk and carbs in the first trimester. Don't beat yourself up over it! Now in the third trimester I'm craving healthy foods like veggies and fruit, so I guess I'm making up for the 1st trimester.

Same here...fries, pizza, basically junk. I was doing so good up until this week with eating healthy now I can barely eat at all. I've been eating different types of crackers and crap. I figure eating something is better than nothing just keep up on your vitamins. Maybe you could make the meals you are craving at home (if you have the energy lol) so it's healthier...

Honestly, I just did what I had to to get through first tri. I was told to try and get a serving of protein in at each meal/snack - so I ate a lot of cheese cubes, pepperoni sticks, almonds - basically anything that sounded remotely good.
Burgers are an excellent source of protein, haha. If that's what sounds good...go for it. Have one with tomato and lettuce - you'll get your veggies, too! ;)

I usually eat a lot of veggies and lean meats/beans, but both sound absolutely terrible right now. I tried to force down some veggie stir fry last night for dinner. Lets just say that it didn't go very well. Any ideas for foods to eat in the first tri that have a little nutritional value? I can't handle many more crackers or pretzels. All that sounds appetizing is burgers and fries.
