I have had these...even went to the ER for it once pre-pregnancy. They said stress/anxiety was the cause. I had them quite a bit around the middle of my pregnancy but haven't had any this last trimester! There was a point a few months back where my ribs started expanding and I'm pretty sure my bra being too tight contributed to some of the heartbeat weirdness...you should try relaxing and bra extenders! But it's also a normal part of pregnancy with all the extra blood.

Yep. It was pretty much like you described. Kind of unnerving at first.

No murmur or true racing heart for me. I used to get these all the time... I actually saw a cardiologist because I was worried, but all was good.

@hergreenapples: I'm in the second trimester. My heart doesn't race, it just feels like it skips a beat every now and then (which is what I describe as a palpitation).

Your heart rate certainly increases during pregnancy due to the increased blood volume, but that's different than palpitations.

I would certainly discuss it with your doctor if I were you. How far along are you? In the third tri, racing heart can be a sign of pre-e. Not trying to scare you in the least, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to get it checked.

Do you have a murmur? I have one, but it is minor and causes no problems. But once in awhile i feel my heart racing and i have to calm myself down. That's all it is for me.

During my first pregnancy, I felt something that I always described as heart palpitations but since I never really brought it up with my doctor, there's no way of knowing. With this second pregnancy, I haven't felt anything like that. Maybe it was a fluke or stress, I don't know.

Yes and it got progressively worse. It turned out I had a rare heart condition though. so I'm a special case.

Me! I used to get them a lot during one particular phase in my life (pre babies). I was so worried and got it checked out with EKG and all and was told it was nothing and it is fairly common. I very very rarely get them once in a while now.

Anyone experience heart palpitations during pregnancy? I used to get them from time to time pre-pregnancy, but I feel like they happen a lot more frequently now. Apparently it's somewhat common because of all the extra blood we are pumping! Anyone else?
