Ours was 150-160's consistently and we had a boy. Everyone kept telling me that it would be a girl because of the HR, but he is indeed a boy :)

i've only had it measured twice, once at 12 weeks for the NT scan and another at our anatomy scan at 19 weeks. both times, it was between 160-170. we are having a girl.

Our baby's heart rate was consistently between 140 - 150, usually sitting at 145, at every single appointment once we got out of the first trimester. Apparently that should have indicated a boy, but we had a little girl! Then again, none of the other old wives tales held true for me either so I don't put a whole lot of stock into any of them! :-)

Total Myth. it's true about 50% of the time. My boys heartrate has been all over the map. The only things i know of that go above 50/50 are the nub theory (70% so still a big margin) and the anatomy scan which is not 100% but close.

@Sorrycharlie: I think there's something to be said about not feeling well and change in baby's hbpm. When I was in the hospital last month (turned out to be food poisoning or a stomach virus) I noticed a major change too. Maybe when our body is stressed that's a side effect. I hope you feel better soon!

our baby's HR has always been between 150-160, and she is very much a girl! however today it was 140. I felt like crap though so that might have been why? not sure.

@Mamamoose: I generally do not buy into any of the old wives tales (especially this one) but am always curious about any funny correlations.

@Jholler25: Wow-- that was a huge increase for your little girl in the beginning! We started off very high (up to the high 180s around 7w) but came down steadily into the 2nd trimester.

We were already at 132 @ 6w2d, then every time after that she was in the mid to high 170s, until well into the 2nd tri, when ahe finally went down to 150s. Obviously, "she's" a girl;) So it was true for us!

Most babies start off with higher heart rates and then it slows in the second tri. Numerous studies have shown this theory to have no basis so we don't read into what the heart rate is.

@Mrsjyw: that looks pretty much like our progression too (we are at 25w2d today)! And I have been pretty sure (of course I have nothing concrete on which to base this!) that we have a little boy cooking as well :) We'll have to wait and see! Somedays the curiosity just gets the better of me...

Even though we're Team Green, I have some sneaky curiousity and am trying to figure out what this little baby is, even if just for my own entertainment! I have been paying attention to the hbpm at each of my appointments and am curious if any of you "read into" the results and whether or not it correlated with a specific gender, according to the old wives tale (i.e. higher hbpm=girl, lower=boy).

Like many, we started off this pregnancy very high (>160) but have steadily come down to the low-mid 140s.
