I was not comfortable taking any medicine while pregnant but my heartburn was so bad that I ate no more than 6 tums a day. I stopped eating anything I thought caused it. I lost weight. But still ate healthy and my baby is a healthy chunker!

It was THE WORST PART of my entire pregnancy. I wish I had started Nexxium sooner. I was miserable. Tums and more tums, ranitidine did nothing.

As an aside, my kid was born with SO much hair. So the old wives tales were true in my case.

I started taking Zantac regularly at like 9 weeks. I was trying to take it only when I needed when my midwife told me it works better if you take it every day. That helped for a while but now I'm 26 weeks and getting terrible heartburn despite the Zantac so who knows how this will play out.

I took a prescription Zantac at bedtime which helped.

Last night papaya enzymes were highly recommended by a lot of second time moms. Might be worth a shot?

Mine was bad in the beginning too and I have a prescription for ranitidine which I find works really well. I only take it when it gets bad. It went away for most of the second tri and now has come back at the very end but definitely helped by drugs! Trying to eat smaller meals is always a good idea too.

I had absolutely miserable heartburn with my first child. Even drinking water would cause it and I refused to take anything (no idea why, stubborn I guess). I needed to function with my 2nd pregnancy so I took OTC zantac (prilosec? i can't remember) and had virtually no heartburn whatsoever. It significantly improved my quality of life!!

I've had it bad and early both times I've been pregnant. If it's any consolation, it makes absolutely no difference what I eat at this point (22 weeks)... I get it even if I drink only water. So now I just eat what I want and take Zantac religiously.

Any advice? It hit me hard at 12 weeks and wasn't like this with LO1. Before the occasional tums would cut it and now I'm afraid to eat and taking ranitidine which I think I need to make a regular thing. And all of my favorite foods are culprits, just as my nausea and food aversions lifted!

If you had it bad starting this early, what did you do? Am I doomed to no caffeine and baked chicken for the next 6 months?? :silly:
