my dh is a carpenter and gets HUNGRY everyday at lunch :)

he doesn't like leftovers and doesn't have anywhere to heat food at lunch, so he is stuck with sandwiches. plus we are trying to save money, so he doesn't even get lunch meat etc for sandwiches! thankfully he loves pb+j so that's what he gets every day for lunch!

a typical man sized lunch for him is:

2 pb+j's on whole wheat
crackers and cheese
apple
nectarine
apricot
banana
unsalted roasted almonds
a few squares of chocolate
sandwich baggie of chips
a homemade blueberry muffin or 2
baby carrots
2 litres of water

hahaha.... what a guy.. and starving by dinner.
lately we've been adding 2 hard boiled eggs to that lunch, too.

he's 6'1 and 175lbs, so not a big guy at all! :) if only i could burn energy that quickly......

DH can make his own damn lunch (ha! He's off for the summer and I WOH) but I often will grill an extra chicken breast and make a Lipton rice or noodle side packet, add some veggies and voila! Two good lunches, right there.
Things that reheat well:
Meatloaf, BBQ meatballs, enchiladas, lasagna, chili, chicken&noodles, chicken&rice casserole, shepherds pie.

Sometimes I'll get a wild hair and do a heavy breakfast, then it's light lunch day-veggies, yogurt, carb-free anything basically.

Leftovers, especially casseroles. The other day I sent buffalo chicken "fries" and BLT pasta salad, which was a big hit. Also almost always cottage cheese or string cheese, pretzels/nuts and fruit snacks ;)

My DH has a PB&J sandwich every day right now because I'm not supposed to be eating deli meats so we don't have any in the house. When I'm not pregnant i usually make meat tortilla wraps with cheese, lettuce, cucumber and honey mustard.
In lunches I also pack a few of the following: veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, cookies, granola bars, fruit leather, Welch's fruit snacks (we don't even have kids yet!), apples or strawberries. My DH is a total meat and potatoes guy too. However, he would never make his own lunch, so he will eat anything I throw his way.

Leftovers. Anytime I make dinner, i make enough for leftovers, so there's often, truly, meat and potatoes for lunch! Or chicken, rice, and veggies, or chicken/potatoes/veggies...sometimes just chicken and veggies if we eat all the starches.

DH also likes chicken salad, which is really easy for me to make and stick in a lunch with some bread.

I just wanted to jump back to this thread to see if there were any more suggestions? Summer is always hard because we don't want anything hot.

Last week we got a tray of white meat chicken salad from Costco. It was about $5/lb which isn't cheap but better then eating out. It was great with some ritz or leftover dinner rolls.

Sloppy joes, just do a separate container for meat/bun...pulled pork sandwiches, brisket sandwich...any of those can be made in a crockpot night before. Or...they can be turned into quesadillas also!

@jerricabenton @thehistoryofus I'll have to try quesadillas! I think he'd like that.

@mrs. wagon @medianaranja He's just starting to like meatloaf (crazy I know!) so I'll have to find a good recipe and try it!

um, i'm 36 weeks pregnant so i enjoy hearty man meals too. I was just complaining to my coworkers about how hungry i am after eating a lean cuisine for lunch.

But my go-to? Leftovers.

DH takes a lot of leftovers. He also likes to take tuna sandwiches. I like to make burritos and freeze them so they can be heated in the microwave. Chili over rice is also a really good lunch option. DH had a can of chunky soup over instant mashed potatos one day and said how good that was!

I second quesadillas! My husband is usually home for lunch but sometimes I make something and bring it to him and quesadillas are one of his favorites. I get creative with them and basically use whatever I have but I use a cheese, meat, green, and some kind of sauce. I use beans sometimes too. He actually loves arugula in there! So one I do a lot is cheddar, chicken, avocado, arugula and a cilantro sauce. I've added leftover sweet potatoes, prosciutto or whatever and he loves it.

I struggle with this daily!DH doesn't have anything to heat up food at lunchtime so I feel awful with the number of sandwiches he ends up with.

If he had a microwave I would send leftovers, meatball subs, mini meatloaves, soups, chili, etc

I make meatloaf in muffin tins so they are single portioned sized, and maybe think ahead and 1-2x week make a big batch of rice or potatoes or whatever to take with. I keep the meat muffins (heh) in my freezer, and in the morning pop it into a tupperware, and it is small enough that it usually unthawed by lunchtime.

I am trying to keep a *crock pot meal* on hand every week, so that I have quick (but healthy/hearty) go-to lunches/dinners ready during the week. I have a cookbook with tons of different crock pot/one pot meals to choose from, and just pick a category (meats, chilis, stews, vegetarian . . . even desserts), and after a few minutes of easy prep and a few hours of slow cooking, I'm in business.

When I was working I just took leftovers or PB&J or whatever. DH always wants 2 sandwiches, 2 apples, 2 cheese sticks, some crackers, some trail mix. He doesn't eat the whole thing but likes to have a lot just in case.
He will not take leftovers.

I try to make lunches for DH to bring to work at least three times a week. Sometimes it's leftovers, but usually it's a sandwich with some crackers, fruit and maybe some nuts, and occasionally something sweet. The poor guy has to be burnt out on sandwiches - I need some ideas!

He's definitely a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy so packing him a big salad or a veggie wrap is out of the question :) What do you and your DH pack for your lunches?
