Since he last ate at 7:30 and we know that he can AT LEAST go 5 hours without eating (and more- he's a big boy) we decided that if he woke up before 2 we'd let him CIO. At the first waking after 2 we'd feed him! I shouldn't have fed him at 6:30 and I won't be doing it again. He wasn't really hungry so when I offered the paci after 2 oz. he took it fine. If he's really hungry he'll reject the paci.</p> <p>@mrskc: That part was really hard! We turned the sound on the monitor down so I couldn't hear the screaming and DH held it to listen for any problems. We watched a show. I was uptight the entire time and completely on edge but we survived!</p> <p>@Beebug: You can do it!! I'm interested to hear how it goes for you with C! Elliot definitely does not usually sleep in as late as he did today (he woke up at 9:15!!!!!!!!). He's a between 7:30 and 8 waker...which is still pretty good :) I think he wore himself out.</p> <p>@Modern Daisy: He's 5.5 months old. We followed the age recommendations that Mrs. Bee posted for sleep training. We would've trained between 3 and 4 months but E was really gassy and uncomfortable and we weren't ready. It's not recommended that you sleep train between 4 and 5.5 months because of all the developmental/sleep issues. LO woke up at all of the times that he normally does, definitely reinforcing my suspicion that he's just waking up out of habit. The good news is that he did eventually put himself back to sleep every time. The bad news is that at times it took quite a while. </p> <p>7:00- bedtime routine (bath, swaddle with arms free, bottle)<br /> 7:43-8:46 CIO. I went in to check and replace paci at the half hour mark but it made things worse so we decided no more checks.<br /> 8:46- asleep<br /> 11:23-11:41 CIO 18 minutes<br /> 11:41- asleep<br /> 11:47-12:06 CIO/fussed 19 minutes. This time he'd stop fussing or crying for intervals of time (at one point up to almost 2 minutes) and then let out a wail, fuss, quiet again, etc. It was different than the screaming/wailing earlier in the night.<br /> 12:06- asleep<br /> 2:15- fed E 4 oz. He fell asleep eating the bottle, I burped him and put him back in the crib lightly asleep. Wiggled around but quickly settled in.<br /> 5:23-5:42 CIO/fussed 19 minutes (with points of silence like last time)<br /> 5:42- asleep<br /> 6:30- fed E 2 oz. Was planning on feeding 4 but he stopped sucking and took paci instead. Put him back into his crib awake (eyes wide open staring up at me- it was sooooo hard!) and he fell asleep without even fussing!!!!!!!<br /> 6:38- asleep</p> <p>Its now 8:37 and he's still sleeping!<br /> It looks like a really rough night but I actually have a lot of hope today. I could tell that once E realized that we weren't going to come get him after every little single wail the crying changed and he was trying to go to sleep. I think by the end of this week and maybe next week it'll be less of a fight with him. He sleeps great once he's settled and comfortable. The lovey really helps so he can nom on it's head and relax. We're doing extinction, so no visits in there. When we first sleep trained at 5.5 months it was awful, and he cried for 1.5 hours the first night and never fell asleep on his own. We are currently sleep training again (11 months) and it's going surprisingly well.
