@cookiemomster: Yikes. That would freak me out too. I would probably call your doctor back if you are still changing it out that frequently after 24 hours. Glad to see thought someone else had a similar experience. What HappyBaker said makes sense to me.

I was going to write this EXACT post 2 days ago! I had mine out in Friday and it's been absolutely awful. This is the most I've ever bled in my life and the clots are huge!!

I did call my doc about it because she didn't mention this could happen, and she said because the IUD is in your uterus and giving off hormones directly there, that when it comes out its a pretty big shock to your system. She said while its in there it's almost as if your body is pregnant (which is why most don't have periods on it), and then when its out its like you've given birth and have to shed your lining like crazy.

Mine has gotten a bit better now but still definitely heavier than a period.

@Eko: I bled for three straight weeks when it was first put in, then nothing for 14 months until now. And it's bad enough that I had to change my tampon out after twenty minutes at one point. Its freaking me out 😕

Out of curiosity did you have periods while on the iud? I had an iud for about six weeks and when I had it removed I had my period about a week later ( it came a little earlier then expected) and had very intense bleeding similar to what you described. I wonder if this is actually more of your period.

I had light bleeding after my IUD was removed but definitely nothing heavy. I always err on the side of calling the doctor. Often the nurse can help over the phone!

Hey guys,
Sorry for tmi but google is freaking me out so I don't know where to turn. Had my iud removed Monday in the hopes of ttc #2 around January. The ob said to expect my first period around three weeks from now, but today I have had super heavy bleeding, clots, and cramping. Anyone else experience this? When did you get af after removal? Is it even possible that's what this is?
