It is like a toddler switch was flipped on her first birthday. She's 13 months now and it's been a month of tantrums. She's worked up to throwing herself on the floor kicking and screaming. I was not prepared for this.

E started a couple weeks ago. She goes what we call "limp baby" and just turns to jelly in our arms, lays on her back and just cries. Honestly, we just walk away, say something about her life is so hard and/or we are so mean for not letting her play with whatever thing she wants, and she gets up and comes laughing after us because she wants attention. Sometimes she does them standing while cleaning to our leg. So very pathetic.

I wasn't expecting them at 11 months, but here they are!

Oh yes we've had LOTS. Started about 11 months. We've got a stubborn one. It most often happens when he's tired and doesn't get what he wants. And when we don't let him go outside. The boy loves outside. He flails around and lays on the floor screaming and kicking and writhing around. Sucks on the hardwood because he inevitably hits his head and then cries harder. Sigh.

@Mrs. Blue: We had some toddler throwdowns yesterday! Luckily they didn't last too long. Her bottom molars are about to break through so not sure if that was it or what.........I think the next couple years are going to be tough!

Right after his first birthday......

It got better for awhile. Then got really bad between 15-18 months. Better again until 22 months and we are in a defiant rough patch again.

Yep, started around 14 months and it's gotten worse. DD throws herself on the floor, rolls around, cries and screams. Yikes.

I've come to learn that my nearly 15 month old DS is very stubborn and can be very defiant! Like, I'm going to stare you at you while I throw food on the floor and then smile as you tell me NO kind of defiant. So no full on tantrums per say, but I do feel like we are getting a taste of what the "terrible twos" might be like.

It could totally be schedule related though! I find attitudes are definitely different when we don't stick to our routine so fingers crossed for you that that's all it was!

@Mrs. Blue: We haven't had any on the floor fits (knock on wood) but he definitely throws a tantrum if we scoop him up/grab something away/do something without telling him first. We've worked really hard to give him choices, ask "real" questions (i.e. do you want to walk to change your diaper or do you want to be carried? instead of do you want to go change your diaper). Which has worked incredibly well, in general, but when we forgot or act in haste... boy does he let us know!

Hope it's just a quick weekend phase though :) Happy birthday boys! I need to go to IG and look for pics!

@Elderberrygin: yeah, I was more prepared for 18-24 months, I hope it's just a weird phase this weekend. :-/ We were off schedule today as they had their one year pictures this morning. We should probably work on sticking to their schedule better on the weekends.

That sounds familiar. My daughter had a weekend of throwing herself on the floor and wailing two weeks after her first birthday. We've been trying to stick much more closely to the schedule she's on at daycare in terms of sleep and eating on the weekends and she's done much better since then.

It was kind of a shock though. I was mentally preparing for tantrums at 18 months, not 12 months. :-/

Yikes!! Sorry to hear you've been dealing with tantrums! Xander hasn't done that yet, although he does get pretty peeved when we tell him "No" to anything! I hope it's just a phase for you!

One of the LOs I nanny just turned one and she is going through a tantrum phase as well. Almost always when I have to prevent her from getting into trouble (going through the cupboards, grabbing at cords, etc.). It actually makes me laugh a little because she's so small and cute, but that doesn't impress her very much!

15 months and no fits yet. I honestly don't remember when DD started throwing tantrums. It's all a blur.

Holy moly, apparently one of my sweet boys has decided to go full-on Toddler Tantrum mode on me a week after his birthday. I'm talking complete throw yourself on the floor fits all day. Oy. I was not expecting this quite yet...

When did your LO start throwing fits?
