Thanks everyone! Glad to know there are others in the same boat and that it's relatively normal.

@KT326: We tried the same. He was actually dry for a few nights and we were ecstatic! It was a fluke...... :(

@Shantuck: We tried that recently with my son... he woke up wet multiple times a night 3 nights in a row. And that was with me waking him up to go! So while I agree it could be worth a try, some just aren't ready until they are older.

I was waiting for my son to wake up with a dry pull-up before I tried not using them. One day at age 5, he came home and his friends in Kindergarten apparently talked about how none of them used pull-ups anymore so he announced he didn't want to use them either. I was strongly opposed to the idea because I foresaw him waking us up numerous times with incidents, etc. However, my husband convinced me to let him try it and he woke up dry and has ever since. My point is that waking up wet isn't necessarily a sign that they aren't ready. Sometimes they just know they can pee so they will versus it being a need. Literally, the day he decided he was done he had woken up with a super wet pull up earlier that morning.

@mrsbookworm: @QBbride: Same here! 6 yo rarely if ever wakes up dry and my 3.5 yo (both boys) will mostly be dry. It's super frustrating. But our ped isn't worried either. He told us we could do the whole wake him up to try to get him to go before we go to bed so that maybe he'd wake up dry and feel better about himself but it's not going to help him stay dry on his own any sooner.

My 5yo (6 in June) is like this too but he’s never woken up dry. He’s a super heavy wetter and there’s no way a pull up would hold his pee, so we’ve been using Good Nites. It just takes time.

@mrsbookworm: I feel you. My 3yo daughter is ready to be out of diapers at night. My son notices, too.

We’re in the same boat with my almost 6 year old son. What’s worse is his 4 year old sister is ready to switch to underwear at night. The idea that she’s ready and he’s not is really bothering him.

My almost 7 year old son is still in pull ups overnight. Our pediatrician isn’t concerned yet. We will revisit it during the summer but she said some boys just take longer than others to stay dry at night.

They have to produce an enzyme that makes them produce less urine at night and they need to be able to wake up and go.

This is pretty normal. My almost 6-year old is the same way. We might try sizing up for the pull-up to help with leaks, but kids need to develop a hormone that will wake them in the middle of the night to pee, and some kids don't develop that until around 8.

My son just turned six and he still wears pull-ups overnight. About half the time he wakes up dry and half the time wet. Sometimes he pees so much in the pull-up that it gets his pajamas and sheets wet. He never wakes up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas on how to get him out of the pull-ups?
