@Iced Tea: my DS broke his leg at daycare when he was 2.5, and it was due to twisting. He fell off of a climbing apparatus and, from what I was told, landed funny on his foot which did the twisting. He would howl in pain every time he put weight on the foot in question, but was totally fine when sitting or laying. I think I would go in for an X-ray since he won’t put weight on the foot, especially since you aren’t seeing anything on his skin.

Our pediatrician informs all parents at toddler/preschooler.check ups about a pediatric bone fracture caused by twisting. He said a kid that age who won’t walk, usually can’t walk due to one of these fractures.

Try squeezing parts of his foot. When I have bruised bones in my foot, it only ever hurt if I squeezed it or put weight on it. Only once did I ever have any bruising or swelling.

@gotkimchi: we can’t see anything wrong! He was playing outside bare foot last night and our first thought was a splinter but we can’t find anything... no redness, bruising, nothing looks abnormal!

My almost three year old son suddenly refuses to walk on one of his feet as of last night. It seems to be hurting towards the big toe area. There is no cut, swelling, sign of injury... nothing! I can bend and move all of his toes and ankle and he shows no sign of pain. It’s only when he puts weight on it. He doesn’t seem in any pain when he’s not putting weigh on it. He is very limited verbally so he can’t tell me exactly what’s wrong. Based on his facial expressions I can tell that he’s in pain when he tried to stand up.

We are stumped as to what’s wrong! Any ideas??
