@Crumbs: The itching/scratching was the hardest part to control because we tried putting gloves on him but he was old enough to take them off. So what we did was we would apply Aquaphor over the areas where he scratched and use our fingers to rub/massage it in. The rubbing motion felt soothing to him because it was like we were scratching it for him. Then after the rub down, we would wipe off the aquaphor and apply hydrocortisone, which helps stop the itching. Unfortunately it's one of those things that just heal with time. It's hard to watch though because they're so uncomfortable. Try the rubbing motions and see if that helps soothe the itchiness?

My son had pretty severe eczema as a baby. He's almost 3 now and still has it but not as bad. We cut down his baths to every other day and slathered him up with Aquaphor right after his bath (to seal in the moisture). We also slathered him with Aquaphor during the day too. We spot treated the bad areas with hydrocortisone and it really really helped a lot.

DD was diagnosed with atopic eczema. It started a few days ago, and now it's EVERYWHERE! It's killing me to see her crying, trying to scratch her face and head. It's gotten a little better today compared to yesterday, but it's still so bad. I don't know what to do and how to deal with this!

We went to the doctor today and I had to convince her to give me some hydrocortisone. What's OTC in the States requires an Rx here and according to the doctor, it's only prescribed to children over 2 (DD is 6 mo). I was told to only use it on her body and not on her face.

I've eliminated anything new in her routine and went back to using an old formula, but it still hasn't helped. They think that her scratching an old rash trigger it - it got infected (although it wasn't so obvious to me at the time). It's torture seeing her suffer and not be able to make it go away.

For those that battled atopic eczema, how did you cope? Any and all tips are appreciated!
