This was R till she started day care at 12 weeks. She wouldn't go to sleep on her own, it was work and then we had to hold her or she would wake up. She learned how to sleep on her own at day care. Then we sleep trained at 4 months.

We are in the same boat at 9wks. We either hold her for the duration of the nap, hold her for half an hour and try and move away or have her in the ergo. Like yours she sleeps well at night! I'm hoping she'll just grow out of it!

As for getting her to nap, sometimes I've found I don't need to try so hard. Once I was holding her and she was fussing and Dh and I were talking loudly over her and she just fell asleep. Same if I put her in the ergo, she fusses for 10mins and then falls asleep.

@MrsStormy: You could try playing around with her awake time to see if keeping her awake a little longer would help her sleep. Sometimes if baby is put to bed too early they'll only sleep for a short amount of time (the undertired bit) but them become overtired because they haven't slept long enough!

Another thing to try is noting down all her naps, feeds etc for a few days and seeing if a pattern emerges.

I'm sorry. That sounds a lot like my LO- she just fought naps so hard. I never figured it out but as she gets older it's getting a little better. I would not worry about getting ready to finback to work yet, just do anything you can to steal bits of sleep here and there. I spent a lot of hour watching tv quietly holding C with my boob still in her mouth, bc she would wake even just by me taking it out. My crutches were either that, or walking her in the stroller or moby. Once she fell asleep I'd just keep moving outside until nap time was over. It's rough.

She is 17 weeks now and an ok napper- goes down a lot easier than before but it's still hit or miss, and on days where she hasn't slept a lot I'll still do the last nap holding her in the dark in her nursery.

Do you have blackout shade for her room?

@Kemma: I agree on it being too young! So I don't fully understand awake time, we are sort of attempting an EASY schedule, from the end of nursing to starting to try and put her to sleep is like 35ish minutes but it takes about 20 minutes of holding and bouncing to even get her to sleep, and she eats for anywhere from 25-45 minutes normally. I think being over tired from not enough sleep really plays into the naps getting worse as the day goes on.

@scg00387: I don't really wake her for the day, she just doesn't sleep beyond about 7am. I try to put her down around 8:30, and there is normally one wake up and feed in there. Occasionally when she wakes up at 7 I will feed her in bed and she will go back to sleep on the boob, but not consistently...

This sound just like my friend's baby. Every child is different and every parent chooses the parenting style that works best for his/her baby. I did nap/sleep training around 8 weeks and it worked great for my LO...it allowed her to sleep long stretches on her own for naps and night sleep. She's 24 months and she is super loving and attached to me and super smart - she is a great sleeper and I did not damage her in any way with the nap/sleep training.

Here's what I recently wrote about my experience helping my friend.

Whatever you decide to do best of luck!

@MrsStormy: what does the timing of your day look like? My LO wasn't a great sleeper either at that age, so I know how frustrating it can be to hear or read how much they're supposed to be sleeping, but that doesn't seem like much overnight sleep. Maybe when you're waking her 'for the day' should really be a night waking and feed her/ put her back in her crib? That is crazy young to CIO IMO :(

Do you think your LO is stuck in the cycle of being under tired and then overtired? How long is her awake time between naps? I definitely think she's too little to CIO!!

I desperately need help! My 9 week old will not nap! She is a great night sleeper but her daytime sleep is a constant struggle, we fight to get her to sleep, then the second we put her down she wakes up. Occassionally she will sleep a few minutes then wake up but her longest stretch is like 20 minutes which is after several settles and is rare. She will sometimes sleep on me or in our boba but she is starting to fight that too. I need to prepare to go back to work in 3 weeks and our care provider has another child (2years) she watches as well, so she can't just have her sleep on her all day.

We have tried the 5 s's, we always swaddle, she won't sleep in the swing or bouncer, I'm at a total loss for where to go next... My husband wants to try having her cry it out (we are in a major standoff over this), I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that at this age, but I'm running out of options, and in turn arguments against it.... Help!!!

Additional info: she gets about 9 overnight hours of sleep, and MAYBE 2 total daytime hours combined
