Well I definitely wouldn't resign or try to get my old job back because that would mean less job security and lower pay, but what you can do is explain the situation to your boss (or HR) and ask if your benefits can remain intact just like everyone elses will. They can say no since you accepted the job assuming all of your benefits would change, but hopefully they'll say yes.

Even if they say no, you still have a lot to be thankful for like the higher salary and new position with more job security. Good luck!

@mrbee: it was strictly a verbal agreement. This AM I received the electronic acceptance letter and will get a package via UPS today with things for a drug test and other consent items.

No notice has been provided to my current employer yet. My intention is to do so on Friday of this week as my start date is meant to be 9/24/12

I'd see if you can explain the situation to them and try to work in maintaining your benefits into the acceptance package?

@Nskillet: Did you sign anything, or was it a verbal acceptance?

Also, have you talked to your current employer about accepting the new job yet?

@Goldilocks1107: this would be incredibly ideal! I have an email into the recruiter asking to call me to discuss. I literally accepted Thursday last week and this was announced yesterday evening. I hope they work with me, I can't believe this set of circumstances I'm in.

Sigh :(

I would contact the "new" employer, let them know the situation and ask if there's a way to keep your vested benefits since this is such an unusual set of circumstances. They'll probably be excited to have someone from the "merged" company staying on staff and you won't be worried about your position at your current company being cut.

Eeek. Is there any way you could sit down and just have an open conversation with them about it? Let them know that you would really rather just stay where you are?

As some of you Bees know I have been interviewing for jobs due to the division of my company being sold. There has been tremendous uncertainty around if jobs would be around after sale so I decided to be proactive. Last week I got an offer, negotiated more money and verbally accepted, yay! I come into work yesterday and they announce that my new employer is the buying entity for my division! What?! They will be honoring all service hours and intend to keep a majority of staff with offer letters being sent out within 60 days.

I am shocked and quite frankly kind of upset. Yes, the offer I received is for more money but I will loose all my vested benefits just to end up at the same company. The jobs would be different but they are still for the same division.

What would you do?! I can't tell if deciding to rescind at this point burns a bridge with the acquiring company. I did email the recruiter about the announcement and how it has complicated my acceptance benefits wise.

Thoughts, advice? Ughhhh
