Try oatmeal and more frequent nursing if you want to save your milk supply. But maybe it's time.... My daughter rarely took the bottle too. So she goes straight to sippee cup, or even just a tipped cup and she slurps up the water. Wahh. I feel your pain.

That is so sad that it happened so suddenly...I suggest drinking tons of water/mothers milk tea and pumping to hopefully bring your supply back. Crossing my fingers it works!

since it's only been 5 days, maybe you could pump to see if that will bring your supply back?

since we still haven't weaned charlie off the bottle, we're gonna go straight to a straw or regular cup for olive. shouldn't be a problem since she hates the bottle/sippy!

@Rubies: Mavrick is 22 months old and still has a bottle for naps/bedtime the rest of the day it's sippy cups. Though we need to wean him off the bottle. So I suggest bottle for night time only... boo for drying up! Sucks.

@brownie: LO drinks from a straw-cup throughout the day so hopefully the transition won't be so bad. But I had to give her formula (soy) because she's allergic to milk. :(

I would definitely go from boob to a sippee. Tommee Tippy has some really soft spout sippys that may work. Once you get that into place, you could try removing it from bedtime.

If you aren't ready to drop the nursing you could keep trying it. If you are ready to drop it, you can just go for it. If your close to a year you could ask the pediatrician if you LO can go to cows milk instead of formula.

@Rubies: Don't! :( Did you drink a lot of water today? Try to up the fluids and see how you do tomorrow. I'm totally drying up too. M is a comfort nurser (I have no idea how to wean her from thinking my boob is her paci) so she'll suck forever if I let her. -.-
I need to make sure she eats a big dinner or she wakes up 3-5x wanting jut!

Man. So lucky that she took a bottle! And so crazy that you've dried up so quickly! I would just bottle feed at night time if I were you.. my niece is almost 17 months old and she still takes a bottle. She drinks from sippies during the day though.

@Rubies: the bedtime varies and it doesn't have to end at a year. DD stopped wanting bedtime milk at 15 months. You could continue nursing at night.

@Andrea: Yeah, I was thinking about that - but if feeding is part of a bedtime routine, does that end at age 1 as well? Or, do I feed from a straw-cup in place of my boob?

Do you have any sippies or straw cups? Maybe it would be better to do that instead of a bottle since you shouldn't use a bottle past 1 year anyway?

Yeah, I knew I was going to wean but not THIS suddenly!

For the past month or so, LO's been nursing 3x a day: wakeup, bedtime, middle of the night feeding. But, for the last 5 nights she's slept through her night feeding, dropping her nursing down to 2x/day. Then, for the last 3 feedings (tonight, this morning, and last night), she would be nursing and then suddenly pull off the boob and start crying! She would latch on again, suck once or twice and then start crying again until I switched boobs.

At tonight's feeding, she sucked for less than 10 seconds before having her crying fit and I wondered if I seriously was dried up so I tried to express some milk and OMG, nothing.

I really think that my milk supply has dried up and now I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do? Worried, I had the hubs make a 2oz. bottle of formula and she actually drank it all - and she hasn't TOUCHED a bottle since she was 3 months old.

1) When weaned from the boob, am I supposed now just give her a bottle?
2) Is it possible to avoid a bottle at all?
3) I'm not prepared for this at all - I have no idea what I'm supposed to do!
