@Smurfette: thanks :bummed: it's so hard. crying for an hour and a half seems so long  I was kind of hoping she'd be a 20minuter but no luck. sigh.

@Foodnerd81: @illumina: I know bedtime starting would be better, but we're waiting to start bedtime sleep training til the wknd when DH doesn't have work the next day, and I feel like I can't wait to do the naps - she doesn't nap at all otherwise basically, she just cries on and off while I rock her for hours

@Trailmix: @blackbird: @Smurfette: @Rubies: @2PeasinaPod: @illumina: Thanks - maybe extinction is what'll work. This sucks :bummed:

@ms.janedoe: good luck to you too! @kiddosc: I know, you're right - I just wish there was a 'in x case' for every eventuality in the book! I just wish I knew from the outset whether it'd work or not.

@Rubies: @2PeasinaPod: @hilsy85: thanks for the advice  nap three, in the crib, 40minutes of crying and counting :crying:

For naps, if the first attempt didn't work, we would go get him and try again in an hour. FWIW, I did checks for night time at small intervals (5, 7, etc min) but for naps I waited 10-15 minutes in between.

I read that's it's easier to start with night time first as they're more tired. Also, we decided to do extinction because checking just meant we had to start the clock again.

Extinction was the only thing that worked for us too. If we went in for a check, it's like we started all over again.

Lots of hugs to you...whatever you do, try to stay consistent. I would try the crib again for nap 3.

Following along. I'm hopefully going to start sleep training for night sleep this week. I think we're going to hold off on naps until we have nights down.

No advice (sorry), but good luck!!

For her nap, after one hour of crying, rescue her and then try again in an hour. Extinction worked for us with naps.

Adding that checks pissed off R too. No checks might work better.

Extinction only worked for us. Every time I went in to see E, it's like the clock reset on CIO.

Now that she's fully sleep trained, I'll go in an see her if she's having a hard time and rub her back. Then usually she passes out right away. But in the beginning, that didn't work. Rarely does she struggle to go to sleep, though. So ti's not a battle we keep dealing with. Maybe every other week we're like, "why's she still awake?"...

I think you need to come up with a plan and stick to it. Decide what intervals you will do your checks at, and then really be in it for the long haul. If you back track and are inconsistent, then all that crying was for nothing. I know it's so hard, but if helped me to do two things: one, I read Ferber's book and understood the method fully and two, we stuck to the plan because if you keep changing it up, or break down and go and rescue baby, then all that crying she did was for nothing. :(

The only thing that worked for us was extinction CIO (as in, no checks). It's hard but was much quicker and more effective.

I'm not going to be best one to answer here, because we had something similar when we first tried nap training, and I gave up and went back to nursing or rocking to sleep for naps for a couple more weeks. We focused on going to sleep on her own at bed time, when it's easier to fall asleep, and once that was stable, did CIO for naps again and it went much better. Not saying that's what you should do, though. Just an option if it's not working.

Good luck!

We had to let R CIO for an hour and half once or twice(off and on) before she fell asleep. One time she then slept 2.5 hours, I still remember cause it was the first time she had ever napped that long.

Hugs! It is hard.

So we're trying to start to sleep train our 6month old LO. We're doing a kind of modified parent attended CIO (can you tell we're all over the place?!)

Today, nap training, Nap one she cried for 30mins and I checked on her pretty frequently. She fell asleep then and slept for 1.5hrs which was great.
Nap two, she cried for 60 solid minutes  :crying: I checked on her, soothed her etc but to no avail. At 60mins I gave in cos I've read (on HB I'm sure) that you shouldn't go past that for naps. But now I'm not sure what to do - it's 1.5hours later and she still hasnt slept but is rubbing her eyes and showing tired (read:exhausted) cues.
Do I try her in the crib again for nap 3? WWYD?
