Also one thing, so sad that now the things we used to take for granted comes with such a price tag... you have to hire the babysitter, orchestrate it carefully, and the event itself is also $$$... !

@YogiBeachWife: @pwnstar: Thanks! I am not crazy about focusing on eating... don't get me wrong, I LOVE EATING and would eat everything twice if I can! but gotta watch that figure at the same time, and I know I couldn't stop eating if I were given a dedicate meal lol. And @YogiBeachWife: Your DH would do pedi with you?! Another keeper you've got there!! And thanks for FB events tab, again I have no idea about that! Let me check :)

@looch: Hugs friend! It's great that you both love reading and have figured out something :) I I haven't read anything other than children's books and parenting books for 6 years. It is just painful to realize how poor a job I am doing to take care of myself and my relationship since I become a mom, and I only have one child.

@shellio: Yes, we are looking at sur la table! The food they are teaching that particular day I have is not very exciting: a cheese fondue, some wintery salad, I forgot what the main course was, and a souffle (which would be interesting). But this is probably something we'll do if I can't figure out anything interesting.

@Tanjowen: Yes we love Barnes and Noble too!

@808love: Wow you guys are romantic :)

DH and I sometimes go shopping on Valentine's together. Wait, it gets better!! We try on clothes at each other's request and buy each other an outfit. (We combine our money now but this started when we were dating and now we just use our personal allowance.) The memories of the date come back each time we wear a piece from our ensemble! :) Other ideas of things we did were to hit balls at the driving range, buy cheap paint canvases and paint the same picture with one of those online art videos. Write a song or poem together. Write love letters separately and read them together. Right now, I'm happy if we go to Whole Foods or I get a massage as our date. It doesn't take much nowadays. :)

We love to go to Barnes & Noble, grab a bunch of magazines and coffee and relax together a bit. Then head to a home improvement store and wander around and discuss home projects or shop - without a toddler! Other times we go to a movie and early dinner, or we have gone to a play together and dinner afterward.

Another fun thing we did pre-baby at home was pick out a fun or exotic meal we have never made before, and then cook it together. My favorite was one time we did tapas and spread a blanket on the floor and had a picnic while watching Netflix.

Restaurant crawl! A new and different restaurant for appetizers, dinner, and then dessert (or a progressive dinner--like just eating tapas/appetizers at three different places).

@irene: You mentioned you looked at one place for cooking classes - I don't know how big your area is but Sur La Table is a kitchen supply store that also has cooking classes, if you're in a city you could widen your search and see if there are other places that offer classes and might be cooking something more appealing. It has been on my dream to-do list for a long time but we are nowhere near being able to get a babysitter in more often. I'm living vicariously through you :) Have fun!!

@irene: My husband and I are trying to be more intentional this year, make an effort. It's been a trying year for a number of reasons and we dealt with it best by kind of just doing our own thing and our marriage has suffered, so I get the intentions completely.

Now, having said that, we've also been struggling on what to do to be more intentional, we're just tired! One thing we both like to do is read, so we decided that we will do a few things around books, such as reading the same book and talking about it and buying each other one book that was somehow significant to us.

Another idea I had is to set a dollar amount, something random such as $13 and walk into a store and buy each other a gift. It could be funny, serious, whatever.

@DesertDreams88: That is so, so sweet. Another "resolution" we have this year was to spend time together, at least one saturday night a month, even if we are just sitting together watching TV. (Nowadays we just end up going back to our desks after DS goes to sleep because there is so much work and so little time with DS... sob) That is definitely something we can do! Thanks, you may have just saved my marriage lol

@irene: yeah it definitely starts off feeling a little weird / lame like do we need cards in order to have a couples-conversation? but the answer is YES right now because it's hard to break the conversational habits of just talking about life! It has led to some great conversations so now DH & I are fully on board and we do 1-2 a night at dinner and bring them in the car for longer drives.

Our improve club has 7:30 shows so it could work depending on location.

@DesertDreams88: OMG. Thank you so much for letting me know about these Table Topics cards! You know it is pathetic, the reason we even come up with "getting better babysitting help" this year, was that we were doing this "exercise" given by our financial advisor (HAHA) to figure out what we want in our life. There was this section in relationship and we talked and one of our action items to be more "romantic" this year was to get more babysitting help! Sad but true, I think it would be great to get these cards so we can continue to talk more about us instead of what do we do with DS next and summer camps and the house...etc. Thank you!!!

ETA: Dang, I am throwing this in for this year's valentine's day gift lol hahahaha

Yes I thought about improv too but don't they start really late? I'll have to look into that....

Ice cream and a walk around "downtown" / a well-lit park, talking and having a focused conversation on your relationship (we use TableTopics & Conversation Starter cards, in order to stay away from the normal topics of kid-work-$$)

A brewery or winery tour

@mrs.shinerbock: Thanks! I did all the googling and nothing came back interesting! And how funny, DS is my "date" usually for ice-skating and picnic, and pretty uninterested with ice-skating. DH does not want anything to do with picnic. Recently I had a pretty bad fall with ice skating and my back is still hurting since November, so I am not crazy about that....I didn't know there is classes on glass blowing!

@DesertDreams88: Thanks! I am trying to do something that I definitely can not do with DS - and we often go to parks / hike with DS, and we can rent DVDs and watch without a babysitter. Then we don't have a firepit lol. And you got yourself a keeper who would do yoga together with you. WHAT? Seriously??????!

Suddenly I remember we can get an appointment for couples massage.... Let me look at groupon :)

We haven't been on a proper date in a long time either, but some ideas that I would love to do - Ice skating, glass blowing or stained glass classes, visit a museum and picnic in the park nearby, chef-led food tours.

I would google "things to do in **your town**" or "**your town** events calendar" and see what pops up. I always find lots of fun sounding things that way. I also think it would be fun to go do some of the tourist things that the locals never seem to do.

One of our New Year resolutions this year was to do better with date nights and babysitter help! And I am making this happen!

We drop off DS to Chinese class 1-4pm on some/most Saturdays, and I just arranged to have our neighbor's au pair to pick him up from class at 4pm, and babysit him until 9:30pm one saturday a month! And she said yes! So once a month, we will have one saturday that we will have 1-9:30pm all by ourselves! Wow that is like a breath of fresh air.

The problem is now, I have no idea what to do between that time.

We have booked her on Feb 25 (close to my birthday). I looked at our local theater and there is nothing that I am interested in going on. We could do a cooking class... I checked out one place and the food they are teaching to cook that day is not especially appealing.

So I am reaching out to see if any of you have any wonderful ideas other than movie and dinner between 1-9pm on a Saturday? What does you and your SO usually do without your child? We haven't had a proper date night in years. sob sob!

ETA: We (or I, haha) like art, art museums, performance art, photography. hmm can't think of anything anymore.
