Thankfully, he seems fine @BoogieBea: @T-Mom:

I kept him up for an hour and a half after it occurred, keeping an eye on his behavior, playing with him, the likes. He didn't throw up, his pupils were fine, he wasn't listing to one side more than the other, and he was acting like his normal daredevil self. Like I said, I think it was mostly just my hormones and the fact that in seconds there was suddenly this very visible lump on his head! I did give him some ibuprofen in a bottle to help with any pain he might be experiencing.

He took a nap, woke up an hour and a half later by himself. He was bright eyed and bushy-tailed as ever, happy to see me. The swelling, thankfully, went down a little but the raised bruise looks nasty. It's mostly blue-purple but where his vein is is a very bright purple. I have no idea what it'll look like tomorrow.

It's still tender, which is to be expected. He did hit it pretty hard but when he accidentally nudged it against the crib while trying to stand in said crib, the tears were instant and it wasn't a whimper cry - it was a full out 'this hurts like the dickens and then some' cry. Gave him some more ibuprofen at bedtime just to make sure it doesn't bother him through the night.

Hopefully tomorrow will be even better still! Thank you for your stories and for your concern. Like I said, I think it's mostly just pregnancy hormones making me freak out but it was scary for a little while.

My son hit his head on the pavement once. He was in the stroller. The front wheel got caught on a crack and the entire thing flipped over. His forehead hit the ground and quickly developed a huge bump. We did end up taking him to the ER. We stayed there for a couple hours for them to monitor him but he was okay and got released. His bump went away after several hours and was black and blue for several more days.
If he's been playing and acting normal, then he's probably okay? Maybe let him nap and monitor him closely? Hope he feels better!

I'm sorry to hear! My DD slipped and hit her head hard on the floor at day care, and she had a huge lump on the back of her head. The lump went away after a few hours and I just kept an eye on her. She's a pre-schooler so I wasn't as worried, but if she had been a toddler, I would have probably let her nap if she needed, but not let her nap for longer than normal. I think in your case, hitting a door way doesn't sound too bad so I would probably not go to the doctor unless he had fallen a long way or hit his head really really hard (but that's just me!). I hope everything is ok with your LO!

My son was walking around (which is why I put this under toddlers), playing, when suddenly he fell into the doorway. Now he's hit his head countless times - after all, he is walking, unsteadily but determined - and normally we just sooth him and everything's fine. This time, though, he hit his temple, right at that visible vein.

It's been over half an hour. He's been acting normally after the initial shock but I'm still freaking out over it. The vein is still visible, purple looking. He has a huge lump on his head - my mother calls this a goose egg? He's been given ibuprofen in a bottle. He's playing, walking, flipping pages in books, dragging around his blanket, and being himself but I'm still freaking out a little. Call it pregnancy hormones.

His pupils are fine, I held ice on the lump as long as I could, he hasn't been sick or lost consciousness so why can't I calm down? Everyone I talk to (including two nurses) tells me that he's probably fine and I shouldn't worry. Just keep him awake (but it's his nap time and he's acting tired!) and play with him for a few hours. Anyone else experienced this? Did you take your LO to the doctor or stay home? When did the goose egg go away?
