thanks all! I put a towel under the crib mattress to elevate it and we have the humidifier running. fingers crossed for a better nights sleep!

@mrsgarland - thanks for the tip - I think we may have been overusing the nose frieda...

We've dealt with several colds and what works for us is saline spray/Nose Frieda, a humidifier running all night, elevated crib mattress if you can, and when he was little enough to sit still in his Rock 'N Play, we'd put him in the bathroom with us while we took a hot shower. The steam helped a lot!

Our doctor also recommended being careful about how much you use the Nose Frieda - he said it can be counterproductive if you use it more than 2-3 times a day.

I second all @twodoghouse: said, and especially the elevated mattress. Even a slight elevation helps immensely. I put a small flat pillow under one end of his mattress and it helps drain everything and he sleeps much better.

Another thing to try is the Vick's plug in vaporizer. Those have helped us so much this past cold. Sorry your baby is sick - it sucks!

Are you using saline with the Nosefrida? My 7 month old twins have been battling a cold too. We've been doing the Nosefrida with saline, a lot of saline in between Nosefrida sessions (they hate that thing but tolerate the saline drops), humidifier in their room, sitting in the bathroom with a hot shower running, and baby vick's vapo rub on their feet at night (not sure if that really works, but I've been desperate). Once they reached the 1 week with a cold mark I ended up taking them in to the pediatrician. DS had an ear infection and DD had wheezing so she's on nebulizer treatments. Our ped said she's seen some terribly persistent viruses this season, so it might warrant a trip to the dr if she's not improving. Oh, our ped also said we could try putting them to bed with their head elevated, so in the middle of the night if we can't get them back down we put DS in the rock n play and DD in the swing. That helps with drainage I think.

My sweet 6 month old has her first cold. She is waking up every 2 hours at night and is taking forever to go down for naps and then sleeping for like 20 minutes. help! how can I help her sleep better? she is pretty stuffed up. I have been using the nose frieda. this has been going on for like a week now poor girl...
