@Beebug: Yay! Congrats on your girl. I remember reading your birth story!

I'm happy to report that my LO wore the 2 cloth diapers today (+ disposables)... they fit her much better than expected and during prep both BG diapers (FT & Elemental) dried completely in one dryer cycle. I'm going to do the wash tonight, and if all goes well, will wash the rest of the stash and switch over. Thanks again!

It is a little intimidating at first, but it really is easy once you get a routine down. We've been CDing for 14 months now, and I love it - the BG Freetimes are my favorite. Definitely don't waste your time rinsing EBF diapers before washing them, and if they come out of the wash stained, just hang them to dry in the sun. Good luck!

Wash and prep first for sure....think you got lots of help above. I just wanted to comment because I (at 3w with LO) was so anti-cloth after pre-baby I had gone out and searched high and low to make a beautiful CD stash. I felt guilty for not even being interested, but I think I was just intimidated. That week I said Tuesday and Wednesday I'd CD, then switch back to sposie comfort zone.

I never went back to sposies. LO was 9lb 1oz at birth and 10.56lbs at 4w appt, and was into them size/fit wise no problem. We use pockets (though I had a set of prefolds all set, too!), a split of BGs and FuzziBuns!

Good luck, I was so grumpy when she was in sposies when we flew/visited family over Christmas, was glad to get home for many reasons, CDing again too!!!!!

.....PS congrats on your LO :)

Awesome, you guys... that was just what I needed. So glad that you are loving cloth.

@Weagle: - Good to hear that you've been happy with the Elementals and Swaddlebees! My husband is skeptical about cloth, so I chose AIOs in hopes of swaying him. Fingers crossed!

I have an Elemental and a Freetime in the wash right now... once I've washed them 5x, I'll give it a go!

Thanks again!

First off, I LOVE my Elementals and Swaddlebees!

If you hate it you can always resell them. Wash them according to the manufacturers instructions before using them. EBF poop is water soluble, so you don't really have to do any rinsing until you start solids. If they look stained, line drying in the sun will get rid of it. Our BGs fit once LO was about 10 lbs.

We started with prefolds + covers and 2 Swaddlebees when LO was under 10 lbs. That was a little overwhelming to me at first. With AIOs you have a much better chance of loving it right away :)

You have to prep them before use by washing several times. Here's a REALLY good resource:

You should definitely wash them first. You should wash and dry them multiple times to prep them (based on the manufacturers recommendations). If you don't fully prep them, they won't hold as much pee etc. This may not be an issue. If you just want to check fit (i.e will your kids legs fit) you can put one on. Our BG fit on our little guy at 9 pounds. They fit different as you go. For use, I would wash the diapers and then when they were all used up, we would use sposies and wash again. Once we committed, we just bought more of the brand we liked and went full time cloth. My husband was big on this and that really helped (especially as I was still working on breastfeeding). If your baby is EBF you can toss them right in the washing machine.

I jumped right in with BG Freetimes (I also have 6 Elementals). I washed (and dried) them 5x as per the instructions before use (I think they said 3-5x). DS was 14 days old and just over 9lbs when we started. He's EBF and I do not need to rinse them off before I throw them in the washer.

I was completely intimidated too, but we love love love them.

My LO is 4 weeks old now and ~11 lbs. So far we've been using disposable, but I purchased some AIO cloth diapers and would like to make the switch soon.

I bought 6 BG Elemental diapers, 1 BG Freetime diaper, and 6 Swaddlebee one-size AIOs (since they were $13 via Amazon for awhile)... that's all I have right now... I wanted to see how it went before investing more.

I haven't taken the tags off yet... I guess I'm sort of intimidated. What if I hate it?! Should I just try one? What do I need to do to prep the diapers? Wash them a bunch of times? (I have Country Save detergent). Do I add anything?

Do I have to rinse them off before putting them in the wash if baby is EBF?

Does anyone know if the diapers I have will work on an 11 lb baby? The BG diapers say 8-35 lbs and the Swaddlebees say 12-32.

Just curious how folks got started... Did you just jump right in, or try one or two for a little bit?!

Thanks!
