@spaniellove: oooh! I don't know how clean you are trying to eat, but I LOVE Trader Joe's kettle corn. It is DELICIOUS. And I just checked and it only has 4 ingredients: Popcorn, sunflower oil, sugar, and salt

@spaniellove: wow! i can't imagine going through all the tiredness/craziness of the first tri with all those allergies. i had a hard time finding things to eat in the first tri, but things have gotten better in the second tri and i do feel more like cooking etc. i try to put snacks in baggies as soon as i get home from the store so that they are always available to grab. this helps DH too. we also try to cook things in bulk and freeze portions for later. i don't have many great suggestions for you but i hope you can find something that works and know that things will get better! :)

@Anagram: Haha, that's what makes it tough - if it's not one thing it's another. We do have a Trader Joe's a few minutes away and I never thought to try there instead of WF! Thanks so much for the suggestion! And you're right that when "vegetable oil" is listed they mean palm oil.

@spaniellove: oh crap! You already said nuts and I forgot. So HARD!. My little sister is super allergic to nuts, but luckily she can eat everything else.

Hard boiled eggs? cheese cubes? I don't know about the Palm Oil, but Trader Joe's uses canola oil for a lot of their junk foods/processed foods where most other brands use vegetable oil, so a lot of their things I can eat---do you have one near you?

@spaniellove: I assume you already eat Lara bars? I actually think a lot of them taste gross, but when they go on Sale, I still buy a million of them because, gross or not, it's something I can quickly shove into my pie hole when I'm hungry and since I'm still an exclusive pumper, I am ravenous all day long.

@Anagram: It's an allergy...it showed up on my allergy test and any trace of palm or palm derivatives gives me hives.

ETA: You'd think that and the breathing issues would be enough to make me avoid it 100% but I grew up conditioned to feeling this way!

@spaniellove: I can't imagine how hard it must be to find foods that are all-of-those-allergens-free! I'm doing just dairy and soy free right now for my LO and I HATE it, and I figure my food grief is maybe only 25% of what you have to go through. ALL my favorite dairy and soy free go-to processed foods either have coconut oil or palm oil in them, which you can't have!

How serious is the palm oil allergy? is it a full-on allergy or an intolerance?

@spaniellove: :( I can imagine how rough that is. But I bet there must be something online at least-- I hope you find a good source for some meals/snacks/treats because there are some times in life where cooking everything yourself just isn't feasible. I'd offer to make some things, but I don't think that would work well for you because we aren't tree nut free and I imagine it'd be contaminated :(

@Mrs. Twine: That's what I find frustrating...I shop at Whole Foods and because I have such a crazy combination of allergies there is no "allergy-friendly" special food for someone like me. Like the nut-free foods have palm or coconut and all of their store brand foods are made in a facility with nuts and coconut. Sometimes I think it would be easier to have Celiac because there's a ton of properly labeled food for that!

Throw the shit out! It's wreaking havoc on your body. Order allergen-free options online

eta: it'll also be hard for your in-laws to take your allergies seriously if you keep eating things with allergens in them. Can't really expect them to avoid allergens in their meals they serve if you keep eating them yourself!

What about making up a big batch of trail mix with safe foods? I do this and will put it in baggies to snack on all day. Also, Lara bars- are they safe? They have become a staple here, too!

Are rotisserie chickens safe? That has become a go-to for us.

@spaniellove: I know that one of our grocery stores has a section that is for people who have allergies/celiac/etc. and has a decent selection of foods that are prepared and packaged differently to take those into account. It's not health food exactly, but most of the snacks and such are healthier that what you are mentioning wanting to avoid-- less additives, less artificial ingredients, etc. I feel for you, because, being pregnant, it can be trickier to eat "clean" because of the time aspect. Do you have any friends or family members who would be willing or able to help prepare some freezable meals for you? I'm thinking a Whole Foods or other grocery like that might have some additional options for store-bought for you. It was hard for me even a while after Lorelei was born to get much cooking done, so if you can find some solutions that can be longer-term that would be great.

@spaniellove: that was my prob when pregnant, except I could eat out without allergy problems. The only times we ate home cooked meals was when I could do a crockpot meal or cooked a bunch ahead. But, oh, it took so much planning!

@spaniellove: I don't blame you! I know you can also call the factory and ask about how they handle foods/cross-contamination.

Same with bakeries! We have one in town whose son has a peanut allergy, so all their baked goods (including bread) aren't made in a factory with nuts.

Do you like veggies? I'm more likely to eat them if I cut them up ahead of time. Is that an option too?

So I have a ton of food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, coconut, palm, etc). I've known vaguely since I was a little kid, but a few years ago I got them properly identified and really cleaned up the way I ate. This means I have to cook everything from scratch and can't eat anything processed. Baked goods, cookies, and crackers usually have palm, ice cream is almost always made in a shared facility with nuts, and it's almost impossible these days to find anything that isn't made in a shared facility with an allergen.

But ever since I got pregnant I have zero motivation to cook, so I've gradually been sneaking in snacks...dried mangos even though they're contaminated with coconut...rice crackers even though they're contaminated with peanuts/tree nuts...and now I'm paying the price. Every day I'm stuck in an endless cycle of waking up with hives and having to take Benadryl. Help me stop! I'm so hungry but I can't keep eating things that make me (and I assume the baby) miserable.
