@Mrsbells: Good point, as I am, usually, the protective parent in most situations.
To respond- Yes, ma'am, they are. My DD had gone over to one of the girl's houses for HER sleepover party a few months back. Her parents are lovely people. One other girl's mom and I are fairly close and she is constantly having DD over their home [ ... since I really dislike having company over (especially messy preteens who don't respect our things, wear shoes on the carpet, and make unnecessary messes. Uck!) -- the mother is very easygoing and trusts DH & me with her daughter. The last girl who will be invited is my niece. She has slept over before because, "family." Oddly, my niece is the one I want least to attend because she is a bit wild and gives adults a bit of attitude. 🤣 I suppose I've been looking for activities to keep them busy and tire them out so they will be less apt to get in trouble (or cause trouble) in my home. When my niece last slept over, she got makeup all over DD's comforter, made color change slime in DD's bedroom which stained the carpet, jumped all over DD's couch (and fell off) after being asked NOT to, would not eat anything that was prepared for her, AND overflowed our tub the next morning. I believe I may a glutton for punishment with this birthday sleepover, but it is what DD wants, soooo here I go ... Her first sleepover "party" it is. 🤦‍♀️

@Kaohinani: The sleepover sounds like a fun idea. My one hesitation is are the parents of the other kids in favor of sleepovers? Sleepovers arent everyones favorite thing, I for one feel strongly about my child sleeping over somewhere without me

@Mrs. Lion: Very cool! She makes slime at her friend's house all the time so I know she would enjoy it. I also have the Jell-o edible pink unicorn slime ... maybe they may want to make that? Thank you!

@Kaohinani: My 5th grade foster daughter is pretty obsessed with slime. Her 11th birthday party wasn't a sleepover, but she invited some friends over they and made slime and played Just Dance on the Nintendo Switch. They had a blast. The big kids kind of do their own thing and appreciate planning their own activities :)

@MountainBaby: Yes, she LOVES crafts and has her own "art studio" off of her bedroom. That is an awesome idea! 👍 I will ask her what she'd like to make. Thank you!

I had sleepovers for birthday parties every year in middle school for my birthday. I loved them! My birthday was in the fall, so we'd set a tent up in the backyard and all sleep out there. Fun for us and quiet for my parents. It was great :) Highly recommend if it will be warm enough in your area.

If your daughter is crafty, I'd look into some fun crafts as an activity. We did one each time that each guest could take home. We had a great time chatting and making them. I remember duct tape wallets (those are probably out of fashion now :silly: , collage magnets for the fridge, friendship bracelets, etc

@Becky: What sweet memories! 😃 I want my DD to have memories like yours when she reflects back on her sleepover. We do have rope swings, a hammock and a small zipline outside. Our home is also on a small lake . . . It would be fun!

Every year from when I was in about fourth grade (so turning 10) through high school I had a sleepover for my bday, and many many of my friends did too. There definitely weren’t any activities planned. During the younger years we played outside a lot and my dad would light some Roman candles, and as we got older we mostly talked about boys. For mine we always did make your own tacos, had strawberry cake, watched one scary movie, and watched another not scary movie (Pretty in Pink, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Sixteen Candles were features). At 11 we definitely spent all of our waking time at my party talking about boys and I think we did prank phone calls.

@josina: I LOVE the scavenger hunt for gifts idea! That sounds like fun for everyone ... maybe I will also place the other 3 girl's gift bags along with her gifts so they are ALL rewarded for working together! Thank you so much!

We didn't plan much for my now-teenage step-daughter.
The girls would mostly hang out in her room, play on the wii, we had personal-pizza crusts and let them make their own pizza's, followed by cake/presents, and then they'd get popcorn and "movie theatre" candy and watch a movie.

When she gets her gift I always make a scavenger hunt with clues that eventually lead to her present(s). The girls always had fun with that.

Everything else you said sounds good!

@Anagram: @Petitduck: Thank you so much! I believe I may be overthinking trying to keep tweens busy without being corny or too intrusive (yet still keeping an eye on them.). 😂 It will be DD's last year of elementary school so I want her b.day to be both fun and memorable. I suppose fun is what you make of things no matter what you are doing. 🤷‍♀️ Thank you both for your input.

A sleepover with 3 people. Amazing! And your kid is old enough to basically entertain herself. We would make mini pizzas and be allowed pop and chips/ snacks and movies. I loved sleepover parties.

I wouldn’t even bother ordering food unless it was pizza unless your kid is into the fancy life. Your activities sound fine. Ask her if she’s okay with it and then be stress free. As a kid, for me, parties were: friends, presents, tasty treats, and a cake. Done. Anything extra was cool, but kids are also surprisingly resourceful.

I think that seems like enough activities. At 11, won’t they mainly just want to hang out by themselves and talk and stuff?

If you really wanted, you could take them all on an outing before bedtime, like nighttime bowling. But for a sleepover I would probably just do what you are doing. You may not even have time to do all of that.

My DD's 11th birthday is 3 mos away. Every year we do some extravagant party (with family and friends). They have been as follows: a catered party at a Horse Ranch, a Spa birthday at a full spa (2x), a catered tea party, a waterpark party, a party at a petting zoo, a party after taking everyone out to the movies, and a party at a gymnastics studio. Before she was 3, it was simple catered parties at a rented venue ... *sighs* Long story made not as long, my son just turned 4, and because his bday falls on NYE, we have always had smaller parties for him (which isn't fair but most people don't want to travel to us during the winter ... and it's New Year's eve, so everyone is either partied out OR has plans 😟). Anyway, we told DD that she could have a smaller party or get together this year but nothing super pricey or extravagant. She decided on a sleepover (ECK! I do not love this idea) with her 2 best friends and her cousin. She keeps changing themes ( Roblox to Unicorns to Spa) which is stressing me out as I can't fully plan without her definitive OK. Not knowing the theme, what activities should I include in her sleepover? I was thinking:
• Ordering supper out
• Letting the girls make and decorate (and eat) cookies or cupcakes
• Doing facials and nail painting with them
• Letting them play preteen/teen board games
• They can watch an approved movie.
... It just seems so boring!!!

What else can I include? And any suggestions for activities or items that would make this party low-key but FUN?
