Thanks everyone! Baby girl C was born August 23rd at 38 weeks 2 days. The induction wasn’t as bad as I thought and it was absolutely the right decision for her.
@pachmama: you’re so right, pitocin was a beast! Luckily anesthesiologist was on call and I got my epidural in time!!

I had IUGR and an induction. The induction part was no big deal and I felt so, so relieved to have baby out. She truly thrived in a way that she wasn't on the inside with the IUGR.

That said, it was scary going in because I was so worried about the baby (she was monitored very closely for IUGR from about 20 weeks on and it created a lot of anxiety for me). They warned me that she may need NICU but in the end, she was incredibly healthy and it was absolutely the best decision to get her out!

I didn't have IUGR but I was measuring small due to low amniotic fluid and had to be induced first thing in the morning the next day. This was with my second and the induction was a breeze and the baby was perfectly healthy. The longest part of the delivery was finding a vein in my swollen arms for the IV. Hope everything goes smoothly.

Also, pitocin is a beast. Definitely have the anesthesiologist on call to get the epidural. With my first I didn't have pitocin and I would say the contractions were like a 7.5 out of 10 on the pain scale with a pure break in between. With my second they were like a 9.5 out of ten and there was no break in between! I didn't have time for the epidural. I felt everything in detail lol

Inductions seem to depend on if your body and baby are ready. I was induced with both ...first time my water broke which is the best case scenario and labor was incredibly fast and easy. I had 2 cytotec and BAM. Second time like yours baby wasn't growing much so I was induced with pitocin. It was only 3 hours of labor and very easy, I was soft and dilated beforehand however, and had gotten a membrane sweep..
Good luck! At 38 weeks you very well might be ready and it could go super smoothly! Either way I'm sure you're in great hands.

I had an induction for both, with my first they were concerned about fetal distress and told me I had to be induced that night. It went very smoothly and was so great I elected to be induced with my second. I understand how scary it can be but don't worry and also get the epidural as soon as you want. With my first the nurse kept telling me to wait and I didn't really progress until I got it and was able to relax.

Good luck! I can’t speak to IUGR but I had an induction for my third and it went great. Inductions after a vaginal birth, if you’ve had one already, are much more likely to go smoothly. Hoping you are holding a happy healthy baby ASAP

I had two 37 week inductions due to pre-eclampsia with cervidil and pitocin. Both were multi-day experiences, but DD2 was faster. My main advice is don't be afraid to get an epidural. I tried to go without both times and I should have gotten it before they broke my water. Sending happy thoughts :goodluck:

I’ve been induced twice! The first time I tried to go slowly and avoid the interventions, the second time I leaned into them and it took 1/3 as long.

Packing list: headphones, sleep mask, tablet with movies, etc, sneakers if they let you walk around, a bathrobe to wear over the gown, your own washcloths, so many snacks and clear liquids and a few sandwiches (the kitchen isn’t always open when you need it to be!) I recommend Gatorade or I found this clear protein drink at our local drugstore.

@Jellyfish: I just had an induction two weeks ago. Everybody is different but they gave me a medicine to help my cervix dilate -it didn’t work. They started Pitocin, I got an epidural, which relaxes me and caused me to dilate fast. OB broke my water. Baby came in total 8 hours. This is my second baby. Definitely ask questions so you are comfortable- good luck!!!!!

I went in for my 38 week growth scan and NST today and doctors said baby isn't growing as expected. They're scheduling me for an induction tomorrow... I'm freaking out because I don't know what to expect and just because. Anyone have similar experiences and can share how it went down? Thanks so much!
