So there are usually towers of fresh and dried fruits and nuts, and piles of colorful rice cake like desserts. These bean towers are not for eating, of course!! but they are decorative representations of those food towers. Nowadays people do the beans because they look good and it's easy to put names in black beans. I believe the main one I used is called cannellini. I also used two smaller sizes. The smallest white bean I used was the size of the black beans I used and that worked really well for fitting in tight spaces. For super tight spaces I'd put aside flattened white beans as I was sorting through the small ones to find good fits and I'd kind of break them in half and put them the other way. And printed on a standard 8x11.5 piece of paper. I found that it works perfectly on a roll of paper towel, which is what I used.<br /> I drew out "labbit" (one of my LO's favorite stuffed animals at the time since she was born in the year of the rabbit), and created my own design for my last tower.<br /> I don't think there's any way around the strands, but no one really notices and looks close enough.<br /> Also, I used smaller white beans.<br /> Here are the ones I made!<br /> Good luck! I've been working on my daughter's dohl towers, and my fingers are all burnt! </p> <p>I know what you mean about the beans not fitting perfectly between the characters. I used baby lima beans and just searched until I found the tiniest ones that would fit. I also cut them in half w/a pair of scissors if I couldn't find any small enough to fit. </p> <p>I'm using a mini glue gun. Since it's so small, it's easy to handle and pretty neat. I do have some glue strings that are bugging me, but I think I'll go over it with some tweezers at the end to pick them off.</p> <p>Just remember that they're not going to look as perfect as the ones you see online, but they'll look great on the head table. First the templates, I got online don't seem to really be proportional. As I am gluing the black beans along the characters, I am noticing there really is not enough space between the characters for the white beans to fit. Do I need to reformat these templates? Most of the templates say they are the standard letter size paper.</p> <p>Also the hot glue is plain old messy. Not sure how to glue the beans without getting the stringy residual pieces of the glue all over the tower. Right now it just looks so messy and busted.</p> <p>I'm considering buying a mini-glue gun. Maybe this will help with the stringiness of the glue?</p> <p>Sigh...epic failure! Please help! </p>
