I put the parts that are washable in the washer and sprayed down the rest of the unit with a hose! I let it dry in front of the dehumidifier for a few days. I haven't noticed any residual smells and it was a TON of puke. Glamorous mom life :)

@avivoca: If we were going to keep the seat, we would have, but about 2 months after it happened, we got a new carseat because she had outgrown it (and it was almost expired after 2 kids).

@BabyBoecksMom: It would probably be a good idea to replace your straps. The detergent plus the hose spray may have damaged your straps to the point that they will not work properly in the event of an accident.

DD2 did this several times, but she was just breastfed at the time so it wasn't *too* bad. I hear you're not supposed to wash the straps, but ours were covered and smelled awful. After I threw everything into the wash that I could, I took a tiny bit detergent and poured it over the rest of the seat and straps. I ran the hose over it for a little, let it soak in and then sprayed it down on the highest water level I could get. I let it dry in the sun and it seemed to help the smell.

We had to do this 3 separate times.... baking soda also helped if it was still damp and smelly.

They say that the sun helps with the stench. But I would probably just set fire to the seat and buy a new one. I hate vomit.

Ugh, that sucks. The same happened to us in the Graco. We actually were replacing the buckles anyway, so I think that helped, but we let everything air out in the sun and I think that helped too. Good luck.

Ugh the worst! Did you check in all the crevices in the buckles? That's where I found some leftover stinky bits. And maybe wipe the straps a little more- they are definitely the worst to clean since you cant actually wash them.

We have a Foonf but when she threw up, we took it out. Took the seat off and there was still so much throw up that leaked underneath. There were little bits every where. It was a mess. We then let it air out for a week inside the house, in a back bedroom, so it wasn't in the sun in the closed car. We just put DH's seat in my car since he was out of town for work.

I washed the diff pads in the machine on a delicate cycle and sprayed it with Lysol.

In our Britax Marathon G3, LO threw up. I washed the cover, the crotch buckle cover, the foam padding, and strap covers, and wiped down the actual straps and plastic portion of the seat, but it still stinks so horribly.

I let it air out as well but it's pretty awful. Any cleaning suggestions? I'm thinking about buying a new seat, it's that bad.
