they're both pretty but different from each other! our friends have a poppy and she's so freaking adorable. isla feels fancier to me somehow. what's your son's name? that may help sway me!

I can't vote because I love both of them. There are no bad options here. I think Isla's getting increasingly common, I wouldn't worry about nobody knowing how to spell or pronounce it.

I like both. I lean towards Poppy though. I love the way Isla sounds but I think you'll get a ton of people mispronouncing and misspelling it, which is a deal breaker on names for me. I think Poppy's cute and somewhat similar to my DD's name, which is Lily. They're both flowers and end in "y". And because it's an actual word/flower and not a diminutive version of something I think it's fine as a name into adulthood.

@OurEastAndWest: we waited with our son too and it just made so much sense (and considering she is due in just a week and a half this is definitely where we are headed with this one as well  ) We like to go in with at least two strong possibilities though just because it helps narrow down the field a bit. With my son though we had those two names picked out for months (and in the case of the one we actually chose years) and I felt like we had considered them from every angle. This one has been so tough to narrow down and we keep changing our minds which has me panicking that we haven’t thought it through enough. :meh:

@Lahela017: @bubblegum: this was totally my worry with Poppy. There really aren’t very many out there to compare it to either. I can think of a CNN anchor named Poppy and that is it. It definitely helps to normalize it when there are more out there.

@josina: you have a great point! I have a common name and spelling too and people still mispronounce it.

Isla is amazing but I will agree that if it wasn't for Isla Fisher, I would totally butcher this name. My vote is for Isla though. Poppy is adorable but not really for an adult.

I think Isla is beautiful!

For what it's worth spelling could be an issue with super popular names too. My name is pretty common (was top 100) and I'm constantly spelling it out since there are multiple ways to spell it.

@tillma: Both are beautiful  I personally have a weird thing for girls names that start with P so take what I say with a grain of salt haha  but I have a friend that named their daughter Poppy and she just is sooo adorable and it really fits her like a glove! I just love it! I also know a Posey who is just darling too!

I've never had a baby but my cousin has narrowed down their name list to two top favorites and then they wait to name the baby after they are born. {They also keep the names a complete secret so no one can give their opinions and commentary, which is hard but genius! Especially with our opinionated mothers ha!} Like their first girl was between Audrey or Felicity and when she was born with a full head of almost white, light blonde her, Audrey just didn't work anymore and Felicity Rose was a perfect fit! I think it could a good option if you really find you can't decide now

Poppy is really cute so I see why you like it, but seems more like a nickname to me? I agree with your concern that it might not translate to adulthood well.

DH finally have it narrowed down to two names for our little girl. I’m just curious what people’s opinions are...would love to hear which is your favorite! I also have two concerns about these names. The first is that Poppy might not translate well enough into adulthood. Does it sound professional enough for instance? The second is that we might spend the rest of our lives explaining how to pronounce and spell Isla since it is still somewhat unique (at least in our area) and that might get annoying. Any opinions on these?
