@googly-eyes: ugh I know. I wish I could make it a non-negotiable to have my own washer/dryer but the fact is that unless you rent a house, you just can't get it.

@chopsuey119: @ladyfingers: Well we wouldn't be considering it if we couldn't make it worth. It's definitely more and we'll have to cut out a lot from our budget, it will be tight. But at this point we just don't have a ton of options.

@photojane: yeah... I check craigslist religiously!!

I would keep looking, unless the extra $200 is manageable.

Lions park. I wouldn't go for the smell! Also the laundry situation seems better. Everyone keeps telling us we NEED our own washer/dryer but most apartments just simply don't come with them. We even went to a couple showings where the ad said washer/dryer in unit but it wasn't! If we wanted the neighborhood we preferred, it wasn't going to come with laundry...so I get where you're coming from with that! But outside in the cold sounds pretty bad... I maayy get one of those ones that hooks up to the bathtub though. It's probably against the lease though!

due to the laundry situation, i'd go with lions park if you can afford it. this may be a stupid question, but have you checked craigslist for any small houses or townhomes? we live in a very suburban area with not many apartments, so we just scoured zillow and craigslist every day for a few weeks. most everything in this area is out of our budget, but i finally caught a GREAT deal on craigslist. thankfully, i was the first to email him, and we got in right away.

Based on what you're saying I would go with lions park. Just simple for the fact that the other you have to walk outside for laundry!

If you can comfortably make it work financially, it seems like those are the only cons on Lions Park. I would opt for more space, storage space, etc. and try to make the money work, because you can't fix a lack of space.

@mrs. bird: The Lions park apt it is shared laundry, but not outside. Just down the hall.

Not really. We live just outside the suburbs, where most people who live here own a house as opposed to renting. Half of the apartments are income restricted an we don't meet requirements and the other half are really outdated, gross or kinda ghetto.

Anything that is nice (townhouses, newer apartments) is way more than we can afford.

Sadly even going to a different city doesn't change much - it gets more expensive.

And yes, I cloth diaper.. I really wanted my own washer/dryer like I have now, but I just don't think it will happen.

Is there much else available near where you want to be in your price range? Neither of these seem ideal. I know people manage, but you could not pay me enough to trek across a complex in the winter with a baby to do laundry. And you do cloth diapers right? That would add up quick to do multiple washes.

@photojane: At Meadowvale you have to walk outside across the parking lot/yard to a separate building to do laundry! In a place like MN that has FREEZING winters, with a baby, this is a huge disadvantage.
The other is in the apartment complex, but in both places, yes they are shared community laundry that we pay for.

when you say "outdoor laundry" what does that mean? are the laundry spaces shared in both places?

We went to see two apartments today and have to decide soon. We're not sure what to do.
We liked both, but liked Lions Park even moreso. The only thing we're hesitant on is that it's $200 more than what we pay now. Which is actually closer to the average apt rental price in our area anyway - we've just always found great deals on apts.

Help!!
