I had a tough time with this decision too! I ultimately bought the Ergo because I found it on sale on the Ergo Baby site for a great price.

I recently tried the Beco at a friends house and here's my review:

Ergo
-pros: hood, pocket for keys/phone, great hip support
-cons: back clip is a bit hard to reach, not forward facing carry

Beco
-pros: front facing carry option, slightly less bulky, a little easier to clip shoulder straps on
-cons: "safety" clip requires 2 hands to unclip, no hood or pocket

Based on my trial of the Beco, I wouldn't switch since i already own the Ergo but I'm not 100% sure if I would pick the Ergo again since my LO seems to like the front carry. If the Ergo was FF compatible it would be perfect :-)

@oliviaoblivia: @purpleunicorn: I'm making this decision myself! I know Target at yonge & Steeles sells Ergo, but wasn't sure who sold Beco...I wonder if the BBBuggy in the financial district sells both - I'm taking LO to the office next week...

I have a manduca carrier, which is similar to the ergo but it comes with an infant insert already and the straps are narrower which I great for me as I am a smaller frame.

Based on the design of the two I would say ergo!

I was really torn too on this before. But what swayed me to get the Ergo over the Beco was that DH could and would wear the Ergo too (so he says) for when we travel. He also liked the hip/waist support when we went to try them on. I also like the pocket in the front for stashing things and the hood/cover. I was worried about the bulk, being kind of short, but now that I have it, I like the additional support and structure.

Haven't tried the Beco personally, but I did like the slimness and designs of it. My GF has one though and she loved it till her LO was about 6 months I think - then she thought he was too heavy for her to wear him in it. If DH weren't going to use the carrier and I had tried it on, I might have gone with the Beco. Both seem to be pretty good! I think the deciding factors would be more about how you want to use it.

ergo was the single best baby item i purchased with my first kid, and it's still going strong with my 2nd. i have nothing but good things to say, and hubby loves it too!

i've never tried the beco so i can't compare, but i love love love the ergo.

No, you definitely won't need the infant insert. My LO didn't need it after about 2.5 months. My husband and I both use our Ergo, and we love it. However, since it's getting to be summer soon, I'd recommend getting a lighter colored one. Ours is the navy blue, organic, and I think it's going to get hot in the sun.

@oliviaoblivia: thanks so much! I was trying to decide quick so i could order one and hopefully get it by friday before i leave!! but maybe it's better to wait. or maybe i can get the Becco, test it out and then try yours when i get back and sell the becco if need be, lol. i am leaning towards the becco because of all the features (outward facing etc).

I haven't tried the becco.

i do feel like the pocket is a "bonus" and not a necessity since I am accustomed to the Bjorn which has no pockets or head cover. And L will be 5 months, so I don't think I would need the infant insert at that age?

I have the Ergo Sport and love it! Super easy to use for both front and back carriers and very comfortable. It's also really easy to drop the waist and use the hood for nursing!

ETA: LO hate outward carries in my other carriers. He gets overstimulated easily and the Ergo allowed him to hide and feel more secure. He adores the back carry with it though because while he is still facing in the same direction as me he can still head against my back.

We love the Beco Gemini. It's very adjustable and comfortable both for me and for my husband, and our LO has been happy in it since he was about a week old (he's 8 months now.) We have not tried the back carry yet and the instructions make it seem a little scary, but I'm sure it will be fine once we get the hang of it.

I do sometimes wish it had a pocket like the Ergo.

I've never used an ergo so I can't speak for the comfortability - however I do know you need an infant insert so that's another piece to purchase. You back back wear in both carriers.

I have the beco and love it! It's really comfortable, love all the designs/patterns and no, it doesn't have a hood but it has a flap that pulls up if they fall asleep and I just take an A&A blanket and draped it over his head when he slept in it.

Yes, the only downside for me personally is that there are no pockets on it!

ETA: I have the beco gemini.

you can back wear with the ergo,. I love mine and have used it for both kids.
The head cover is awesome. Especially when you're out with a sleeping baby.
I personally don't think it's bulky and it's not heavy either.
The pouches in the front are great for storing your keys, cc, phone even.

I have both, but I voted for the Beco. The Butterfly II does have a panel between mom and baby, but that's why I think it's slightly better. It make back carries SO easy! I don't feel any less snugly. You can do back carries in the Ergo.

I have the Beco Gemini, and love it. LO is 8 weeks right now, and it's easy to put on and off, DH and I can share it and it easily adjusts between our sizes, and I can walk around my house (or wherever) for as long as necessary. It doesn't have a layer between us, but one of the other Beco carriers (butterfly?) might.

I've been reading reviews and old HB posts but I still can't decide what is best for me!

I think I am leaning towards the Becco because it seems smaller/less bulky. I can do outward as well as inward facing. I can back wear. It's prettier.

BUT I keep reading that Ergo is easier to put on? Is that right? And that it is overall more comfortable? People just seem to swear by it. And there are pouches and a head cover which I like.

Also, it seems like there an extra layer between baby and mom in the Becco and I am not sure if I like/want that. I like the closeness I currently have in the Bjorn (but it's time for me to move on from the Bjorn as L is getting too heavy to wear him for too long in it).

So basically, I want something easy, not too bulky, and comfortable and snuggly/close. Which one should i get, Becco or Ergo?? (btw, can I back-wear with the Ergo? I'm guessing not).
