Wow! Sounds like 38 weeks is the consensus. I might do 38+2 and stop the day before DD's birthday :)

I would do 38 weeks. I stopped working before dd1 at 38 weeks and delivered right at 40 weeks and I loved the time off! I think having a little time to do extra special things with your older one that will be harder to do once the baby is here will be really nice. I'm so glad I made a point to do that since it's a lot harder to give her enough attention now. Plus rest up while you can!

I think 38 weeks sounds great, you'd have a few days prior to her birthday to get all that done and then celebrate and have some time to yourself.

I stopped working at 39 weeks and H came at 40+3. I really liked having the time alone and didn't get bored at all (granted, it was like a week and a half). I'll probably do the same this time. So I vote go off at 38-39 weeks.

Psh if you get a whole year of maternity leave off, get outta there! I would be off as early as they let me.

I had 6 days off before DD came, and 7 days off before DS came (and both came early). If I didn't have to worry about when I needed to go back, I would have taken more time off to get my life and house in order before having the baby.

DS1 came at 40w3d
DS2 came at 38w

:O

I would work until 38 hoping I'd make it to 40w!

Since you get a year and DD1 is turning 3 at 38+3 I would for sure stop at 38 weeks! Make it super awesome special for her before her baby sibling arrives!

I'm debating this too! I would maybe stop around 38-39 weeks. A toddler around makes getting anything done take longer so all those last minute projects might keep you busy.

Working right up to 40 weeks makes me nervous so i doubt i will either, but DS didn't come till 41+5 and I stopped at 38 weeks so I was going crazy too!

Hmm I worked until the day I went into labor at 40w2d and was feeling fine and still felt ready. If you're feeling good, maybe stop at 39w?

I'm scheduled to go off at 39 weeks, but I found out yesterday that it looks like I'll likely be having a scheduled c section (dammit, breech baby!) at 39 weeks, so I'm thinking about taking a week vacation before that so I still get some time. But you guys are making me want MORE time! I wonder how much earlier I can leave without my boss murdering me, considering that she still hasn't figured out my replacement?

I think you should take off a little early! Maybe 2-3 weeks in advance? I think it would be nice to have some time with your DD before the new baby comes.

I took off a week early before our first and I went insane because it was basically just me at home with DH calling every hour from work to ask if I was in labor yet - ha! But this time I wouldn't mind some extra time to spend with DD before baby gets here.

@sslm: I'm also in Canada and will be going off work 6 weeks before my due date. That includes the 2 weeks I'm off for spring break.

I'm not worried about being bored! I find the days are so full taking care of DD, DH and the house. Plus I can work on little projects for baby and I love organizing. I can bake or prepare freezer meals.

Sounds like you've got plenty to keep yourself busy. It will be really nice to have some special 1-1 time with DD before she becomes a big sister. I also vote to go off at 36 weeks!

haha, I was in the same situation as you! DD came 40+5 days and I stopped working at 39 weeks. I was bored out of my mind. I chose to work right up to my due date and sure enough, I went into labour on the Monday (40+1). I really wish I had a few days to relax since it's so much crazier with a toddler.

I would probably go off at 38 weeks. Is there any vacation you can use?

Oh man. The month I had to myself before Dd2 came was HEAVENLY. Dd1 was in daycare 3x a week so on those days I would go to lunch with my mom, get a pedicure, haircut, etc and binge watch Netflix. Seriously.heavenly.

It was also nice to be off and spend the extra 2 days a week with Dd1 and get some quality time in with her before baby came.

So I vote go off at 36 weeks  We are so lucky to get a full year of mat leave!

With DD I stopped working at 38 weeks. She didn't come until 41+5. I was so bored and frustrated being off for almost a month waiting for baby. However, I didn't have anyone to hang out with, lived away from family, etc.

This time around I swore I wouldn't go off super early again. But. I really want some time off before baby #2 gets here. I live up the street from my parents now and my mom is retired. I have a friend who's due in a few weeks, so she'll be around to visit. Plus I have DD to hang out with. She's in daycare but I plan to pick her up early and do some fun things just the two of us.

Why can't I have a magic 8 ball and know when baby is going to come??

When would you go off if you were me? Also important, I'm in Canada and will be taking the full year.

ETA: something else of note, DD's 3rd birthday is when I'm 38+3!
