@ladybee: those both sound fixable. What's wrong with the built in dresser? But you can always remove or board it over? How low is the attic entrance? I just read over the original post and you said there are slanted ceilings, so I assume it is low-ish. You could put a hook and eye type closure on it. I don't know what they are called, but you see them on cupboard doors sometimes to keep them closed. My husband added in an extra air intake duct in our basement with relative ease, but I am not sure what other heating/cooling issues you might have. Window units are good options though or adding vents to roof depending on how hard that is.

Passing on some words of wisdom given to me by a co worker, you can usually hear what's going on above you better then below. And so kids above are good because you can hear them well, and it's harder for them to hear you, ya know, doin' stuff.

@MrsBananaGrabber: @Mrs. Goose: @Smurfette: @Astro Bee: @ShootingStar: @Truth Bombs: I think you're all right. My only hesitation about upstairs are the following. Any thoughts on fixing them?
1. There is only one vent in the small bath. Heating and cooling is not adequate. For us, we were going to put in a window unit.

2. LO1's room has a lot of nooks that will be hard to child proof like a built in dresser (that grosses me out and I want DH to remove), the closet leading to the attic, etc.

I agree 100% with kids upstairs for the reasons posted above. When they're younger, I'd be worried about any kind of break in if they were downstairs and I was up (even though we live in a very safe area), and when they're older I'd worry about them sneaking out while I'm asleep (which I was able to manage as a teenager from the 2nd floor, but being downstairs would have made it a lot easier ;) ).

Agreed. LOs upstairs. The bonus is that if you are entertaining, the will be farther from any noise, and will sleep better.

I'd move them both upstairs. I really love having a playroom. And it since you can't all be on one floor, I'd put the kids together.

I would move the LO's up. LO's in first floor bedrooms make me nervous anyway in case of a break in/home intruder but I especially wouldn't be comfortable if they were downstairs and parents were upstairs.

@Mae: I know right? Initially we were talking about moving LO1 up but I hate the idea of that. Having both of them up there seems fair.

I'd move both LOs upstairs. I feel like if you're otherwise safe (smoke detectors, etc) the fire risk of having kiddos on floor 2 is pretty minimal. And having a play room sounds nice!

We live in a bungalow style house. We have two decent sized rooms on our first floor plus a full bath. On our second floor we have two smaller bedrooms with slanted ceilings and a half bath. Right now we are down stairs with LO.

We have been considering moving upstairs and having both LOs on the first floor. Our other option is to move both LOs upstairs, we stay in our room and we turn the other room downstairs into a playroom.

I see benefits of both. I like the idea of both kids being downstairs in case of a fire. Plus all their stuff is easy to get to because it's on the same floor as our living space. I also like the option of us staying in our room and having a playroom. Toys are all over our living room. I'd love to have a space for them to play.

Thoughts? Please share any advice or tips!
