Mrs. Bee had a post about when to sleep train/what the optimal time was. I think it was between 3/4 months and then waiting until month 6. Something about how they are developmentally ready, then.

We would have, if we needed to. I know Mrs. Blue sleep trained her boys (successfully) on the earlier, side, too! We did it at a little over 5.5 months and it was life changing.

Have you tried or would you be open to bedsharing at all? Sometimes that can be the easiest way to help a wee babe sleep better, especially if they just want to be held!

Unfortunately it is really normal for babies to want to feed constantly through the night, it's awesome for maintaining milk supply and the sucking action is probably very soothing for your little guy :-) it also keeps him close to his favourite person in the whole world - you!

Hang in there mama, you're doing a wonderful job and this too, shall pass!

Wait - I have one more thought! You could try checking out Sharlene Poole's YouTube clips - she has some good settling techniques!

I think you will have to trust your gut about sleep training. I just wanted to say that occasional 4 hour stretches is pretty normal for that age. And, baby sleep isn't linear. My daughter slept fairly well (at night) early on, and then at 3.5 months started waking every two hours. We sleep trained at 6 months to get her to put herself to sleep, which she can do now, but still wakes up at least 3 times, usually 4 or 5 a night.
We started co sleeping, because it meant I don't have to get up to nurse every time she is up.

While each baby is different and you'll know when it's right for your child. I wanted to write you a note of assurance that my ds went from sleeping well the first few weeks 4+ hour stretches at night to random wakeups every 2 hours at 6-10/11 weeks!

I don't really think there's a rhyme or reason, and even establishing the "EASY" routine didn't become regular for us after the 3 month mark.

With that said, our DS ended up night weaning and STTN 12 hours suddenly! the week after and has been a great sleeper since!! We haven't even sleep trained!!!

I think at least wait out the next few weeks.... and if you need resources, there are awesome posts on the blog about moms who have sleep trained early on!

I feel nervous writing this so please be gentle. I have a very tough cookie of a 10-week-old. He's the cutest little guy but he has been a tough baby from the start (and I'm not just saying that since he is my first, multiple friends/sisters/family members have verified). He is so cranky, never goes down to sleep easily, and hasn't slept more than 4 hours at a time since he has been born (and that's rare).

We are trying to decide if/when to sleep train. I'm 90% sure that the if question is yes, but I'm not sure on the when. I'm considering trying as early as 12 weeks because he honestly just seems miserable and is always over-tired. He sleeps great in his carseat on the go or in his stroller, but at night it is bad. His first stretch is usually about 3 hours, followed by an hour for feeding, diaper change and then soothing back down, then maybe a 2.5 hour stretch, and then repeat the whole thing hour routine for another ~2 hour stretch. We of course struggle with any sort of naps too. And I would say that about 1/3 of the nights he just will not sleep after 3am unless we hold him. He can be in the deepest sleep in our arms, but he is up and screaming as soon as we put him down.

We have tried everything obvious -- we swaddle, use white-noise, put him in the rock'n'play, keep in pitch black dark, use a pacifier, etc. He just won't sleep for long at all, and it is a production to get him to go down.

I should say that he is a big baby -- 14 pounds already at 10 weeks, and is healthy in every respect other than sleeping.

So my question is -- did anyone sleep train successfully at an early age? Am I crazy for considering it? I don't want to do it to drop feedings, but just to get him to go down easier on his own and stay asleep for a bit longer. At his feedings as-is he often will just eat a bit. I don't think he is waking out of hunger. I am just getting really nervous as I will be going back to work at a pretty demanding job at 14 weeks.

Thanks for the advice.
