Operation Flower Girl was a success! The rehearsal was moved to 1pm so she took a 1 hour nap on the way there and then a 30 minute nap between the rehearsal and pictures before the wedding. She was a champ and turned on the charm!

@jh524: @tysonja: Thank you! It was great - she did so well!

@birdofafeather: Glad your LO did so well! It is nerve wracking, isn't it?? But then I'm sure you were beaming with pride like I did ;)

@regberadaisy: @MsMini: We kept her in the dress as long as we could - all pictures were done and I could tell she was uncomfortable. It was itchy for me to just hold her! I asked the bride if it was okay for me to change her, and she was like, "Oh, yeah, I thought I told you that's totally fine." :)

@daniellemybelle: R (almost 2.5) was a flower girl yesterday. She rocked the rehearsal, freaked out crying when we were lining up because she wanted to walk right.that.second to grandma and then calmed down, smiled down the aisle to me and then walked to my sister. She stayed in her dress for a long time until we determined it was time for my parents to take her home then we got her into her jammies. How did it go for your DD?

I would definitely leave her in it as long as possible, I think if lots of people are fawning over how cute she is it will probably last longer than you think ;) Let the bride know before you change her in case she wants more pics or something.

Oh & here's a bonus question: Do you think she needs to stay in her dress for the whole reception? It is a huge tutu thing - I am thinking it might be kind of hard to keep her in it for the whole evening?

@daniellemybelle: good luck! I'm sure it will be great! It sounds like the bride is prepared it won't be "picture perfect". FWIW we had 3 flower girls and 2 ring bearers in my wedding. Our youngest niece could barely walk and the one niece was just 3. The younger One was carried down the aisle by my MIL and the other got stage fright last minute. So FIL carried her down the aisle. No biggie! During introductions the older one got more comfortable and walked in with my niece and nephew. It was super adorable.

So, wedding is tomorrow! LO is trained to run down an "aisle" for an M&M when I say, "Wedding time!" :silly: We'll see how it goes... They pushed the rehearsal back to 1pm so I think we are going to try to do her real nap in the car before, and burn plenty of gas sitting in the car with her for 2 hours. Maybe if we can fit in another short car nap in the afternoon before the wedding we'll do that. Fingers crossed!

Oh, and she banged her eye on something yesterday and it is all swollen and droopy :bummed: Acting totally fine but she looks crazy! Awesome, haha.

So My 2.5 yo son was just in a wedding a few weeks ago. The rehearsal was the night before and he cried and didn't want to walk down the aisle, but when it came to show time, he was a superstar!

Is there any way you can talk to the bride about the rehearsal? I don't think that it's a very good indicator of how she may handle the actual ceremony! Otherwise, I would just wing it with the car naps and hope for the best!

Ok, I read the part where the rehearsal is really a trial, but... I still say skip it. My LO was a flower girl at 16 months old, and the rehearsal and the wedding were night and day different. Not at all an approximation of what it would be like at the actual wedding.
If your LO is one that tends to be tentative in new situations (mine is), I almost think shock and awe would have been better, than letting her get too familiar with the area. That said, LO went down the aisle in a wagon (which I'd also recommend as a potential backup!), so I didn't have to encourage much cooperation.

@littlebug: That's a good idea. I'm hoping we can leave the rehearsal early - maybe the family of the other girl will too and we can go to a park or Chick Fil A playground or something and they can bond.

As much as I want to try to control this situation, though, I know we are going to have to go with the flow that day. Hopefully it all works out! We are just going to hardcore practice starting tomorrow. Toilet paper aisle, wedding music playing, M&Ms ready, cue word "Wedding time!" LOL.

Thanks y'all. We're not going to skip the rehearsal. I want to do what the bride has requested.

Hopefully we can practice a lot and she won't freak out! As for the nap situation, I think we'll do a 45 minute nap on the way there so she'll still nap later in the afternoon before the wedding. I'm planning on packing a lunch to feed her before the rehearsal begins so she'll be in a good mood.

If anyone has any tips about how to keep her happy that day, I am all ears! :)

Skip the rehearsal and let her nap! My 2.5 year old nephew cried all the way down the aisle. It was funny and cute and didn't ruin a thing. I love those pictures! We had his babysitter take him away to play after he got down the aisle. If she's concerned a out your daughter crying or something you guys need to reevaluate her participation.

I can also vouch that a good rehearsal does not mean a good aisle walk. My son was a "petal boy" at 23 months. Rehearsal was fine and he cried all the way down the aisle during the real thing. I think the bride needs to be ok with the chance that DD might not do well & allow for a nap to increase her chances of a good mood. If the bride will really be upset with a poor "show", maybe you should bow out - this seems like a lot of pressure on you & LO.

@daniellemybelle: oh yikes. I would just do 2 car naps. We did that this weekend with my 19 month old because we had a family party in the middle of the day. The stimulation was enough to keep her from melting down and then she passed right out in the car on the way home. That said, I feel like the brides expectations may be a little off here - toddlers are so unpredictable that what happens at the rehearsal has zero relationship to what will actually happen at the wedding.

I understand your friend's theory on wanting to see how your daughter does at rehearsal, but how she does at rehearsal with 20 people present in the early afternoon may have ZERO bearing on how she does at an actual wedding with 100+ people present late in the day with (potentially) little-to-no nap. I'd go back to your friend again and ask if you could have LO skip the rehearsal.

Could you try to get together with the older flower girl an hour or so before the ceremony so she can get to know her? Maybe she'd feel comfortable walking down the aisle with the older girl.

@Truth Bombs: It's not that I am not willing. The bride has specifically requested that she be at the rehearsal to see how it goes.

She does fall asleep really easily in the car - like all the time - and especially with all the stimulation I think she will take two car naps. I just hope being off her regular schedule doesn't throw her off.
