@looch: I definitely love this chair! I bought it off craigslist and it was brand new. I spend a lot of time studying so a comfortable chair is a just for me.

I would like wall lamps idea - would you center them on each side of the bed?

@LaughLines: that was my original idea... Thanks! We love our bed. It's definitely the nicest piece of furniture we own.

I think you should make the desk it's own little "zone" so it doesn't look like just a wider end table that is making the room off center. Try searching "desk styling" on pinterest, there are some beautiful ideas like cork boards, hanging storage, shelves, etc. Pull that corner together as an "intentional" area.

Then maybe a mirror on the left side of the bed above the end table behind the lamp to reflect light and make the room look bigger. Then above the bed you could do your black and white prints or even just leave that part of the wall blank so it's not too cluttered and your headboard is already really cute!

I think the chair you currently have is too large, do you need a chair with a back to it, could you do a bench that fits underneath the desk?

I would also look at installing lamps that are wall lamps, instead of table lamps, it's easy to do as they don't have to be hard wired and you can take them with you when you move (and patch the walls easily).

@Mrs. Pen: Could you raise the bed for storage? Our couch and love seat are very low, so we bought some inexpensive bed raisers ($10 per pack) and now they are much easier to get on and off of. I think they were raised about 6"?

Instead of two shelves above the desk, could you do one shelf in front and one to the side, like an L? A second shelf set could be added on the other side to balance it out and to lift off some of the clutter. For instance, if you used 1 x 12's for the shelves, you could buy the canvas boxes to store things in, even clothes that aren't being worn.

I say embrace the asymmetry. I think this may work. Pick art that is similar- one a rectangle (for desk) the other a square piece (for nightstand). Then get new taller lamps or floor lamps that you can put behind the desk and side table. Place the lamps off-center closer to the bed. The lamps will frame the bed and the proportion artwork to the other furniture wI'll make the unevenness seem more purposeful. The lamps should be taller than the headboard.

@lamariniere: not enough room at the foot of the bed, or the opposite wall because of the window.

I was disappointed when we received the bed because the bottom is only a few inches off the ground so there is no under-bed storage options!

I don't have art in mind but it would be easy for me to either use some photography I've done, DIY something or find something I like on etsy..

How much room do you have in front of the bed? Could the desk go opposite the bed? If not, what about turning the desk 90 degrees? I'm not sure if your chair would fit though, but you could have more symmetry with the bed if it did. You could put a low, narrow shelf under the window for book storage. I like the inspiration pic with the three large photos. Do you already have artwork? Or are you looking?

Eta: can you do under the bed storage for the odds and ends? Hiding the clutter would help immensely!

pardon the mess - due to our small apartment space, our bedroom is the designated storage room unfortunately. But I am working to come up with more creative storage solutions.

So I want to make our room more... cozy, romantic and inviting. Our bedroom doubles as my study space - DH built the desk on the right and I keep all my textbooks and computer there. He thinks we should put two shelves above the desk, but I'm worried it will throw off the symmetry since the desk already makes the bed not centered - it's further to the left of the room.

Any ideas for art or what to do on the walls - especially to help with the weird symmetry my desk causes?

I found a few ideas on pinterest that put bold black/white art above the bed and like that idea?

First pic is my bedroom. When we get the money I would like to replace our duvet with this one from west elm: http://tinyurl.com/ldo5fhr
and better (fluffy) pillows from pottery barn. So the bed I'm good on, but the wall I need help with!
Second is the black/white art idea I liked.
