@Smurfette: thanks! I think I'm kind of almost down to the one feed per day as I think I could go without pumping in the evening (and she's not interested in nursing then either) so I'm nursing in the morning and will start to pump for less at night. I'm glad R didn't have an issue with it...I think S will definitely be the same, she's just not interested anymore and the only time I can get her to BF is in the morning because she's so sleepy still. The rest of the time I try and lie her down to do it she starts to cry...probably thinking "where's my bottle?" lol.

@Smurfette: this is exactly what i'm going to do. I'm just going to start cutting a feeding a week and sup with formula for that feeding.

I'm also in the process of stopping pumping (I EP). When I decided to stop I was doing 5-6x a day, and have been gradually increasing the hours inbetween, so now I'm every 8 hours (3x a day). Because of the logistics of DS1 & DS2 I haven't figured out how to keep dropping yet, I'm hoping I just start to dry up. I don't want to take Sudafed or anything so I can either use or donate the milk.

Anyways that probably didn't help. Good luck!

I weaned at 6 months. I just cut a pumping/nursing session a week. After 3 weeks, I was down to morning and night. Did that for a couple weeks. Then I just didn't nurse her one morning. Then another week later, I cut the night nursing by 1-2 mins a night. The last night it was 1 min on each side, and then the next night nothing. No issues weaning at all for me or LO.

From my midwives for anyone wanting to dry up their supply:

Wear a close-fitting bra or binder. Sleep in the bra. Apply ice packs if you have soreness. Do not stand under a hot shower. Do not squeeze breasts or express milk - this only tells more milk to come in. (Really though, I bet you'll have to wean from pumping at this point.) Take Ibuprofen. Use SAGE to dry up your milk. Use it liberally in food & tea (I've heard that this is really effective).

I envisioned being able to nurse for at least a year ... Currently, I am pumping & supplementing with formula. My 6 week old had a bad latch, which resulted in extreme pain ... and my supply is terrible. I am going to keep trying to increase my supply, but I won't lie, I am jealous of your freedom!!! :) It's all about our LO's right?! If she's healthy with the formula, then it sounds like the best option for both of you. Good job, mama!

@Anagram: Firstly, I'm sorry that your LO is poorly :( My friends little boy recently had the same thing.

Since we decided to switch, it's been such a relief, I'm not going to lie! We got to the point where I was BF until she got frustrated with me and sometimes wouldn't latch at all...then we were trying to guess how much formula to supplement with to make up the deficit. AND I was waking up during the night to maintain my measly supply that I decided enough was enough!!

@illumina: first of all...congratulations on making it to 4 months!! and second..I envy you your freedom from the pump. I keep saying I'm going to pump, but then something will come up with LO and I'll put off trying an elemental formula again (like, currently she's been sick with bronchiolitis for almost a month).

I am so jealous that you are FREEEEEE to just focus on your LO and not the pumping, BFing cycle.

I have no weaning advice for you as I haven't done it yet. I would guess pumping for less time gradually is the way to go.

I guess this will probably be my last post in this board! After months battling with supply issues we've switched over the past couple of weeks to FF. My goal was to EBF to 6mths, but hey, we got to 4...I know what I'd do differently next time but I'm not going to stress any more over it. I'm happy, LO is happy and gaining well :)

So I just need to figure out how to actually stop completely! I'm still BF first thing when she wakes up in the morning and pumping before I go to bed. What do I do, just pump/feed for gradually less time over time? I'm happy to continue to BF in the morning as long as we can, but I don't really want to keep pumping.
