Are you opposed to carrying two bags? I throw DS's toddler stuff into a Fjallraven Kanken backpack, which is usually hanging on the stroller, and then splurged on a handbag that I had been eyeing for quite some time. Sometimes when we go out I just take the backpack and I can fit my DSLR into it too. But I like having his stuff separate from mine.

@shopaholic: you're right mine probably does have long handles I need to go home and look again. But I don't think it's PVC coated. I think I'm gonna just make it work :-)

@T-Mom: My Le Pliage also has long handles? Also looking forward to using that bag more when I can lighten my load!

@zippylef: I was also going to suggest Timi & Leslie bags! They all look pretty chic and not apparent that they're "diaper bags". I'll wear mine even after diaper bags aren't needed. My particular style is actually kind of small for my current needs (infant). I only use it for short outings and anticipate it will be better at toddler stage. Here's mine:
http://www.amazon.com/leslie-Marie-Antoinette-Diaper-Black/dp/B0036DM37G
FWIW - I've seen PPB Cake Bags at Nordstrom Rack on/off. You might want to keep an eye out for them if you have one near you!

I use a boat and tote bag, but it's got an open top and it's not the greatest when it comes to slinging it over my shoulder. I like it because it stands upright, it's got my initials on it so I know which one is mine and I can pack a lot of toys in there for my son.

I love my new Timi & Leslie Abby bag: http://www.shoptimiandleslie.com/abby-graphite-gray.aspx#.UcSAVZy_3Lk We're close to toddler stage. It fit in everything that you described while not being huge and bulky. DH is even impressed with how light it is since I'm known for carrying heavy bags.

@mrs. wagon: A couple of years ago they started making them with a PVC coated interior. It's very handy with an LO. Easy to wipe down, and the corners don't wear out as quickly.

@regberadaisy: @T-Mom: It was just delivered! I like the size. A little big for a purse, but great size for my essentials and a diaper, snack, and sippy. The fabric is a little more Berber carpet than I was expecting. I was expecting canvas, but it's thick and I kind of like it. It's easily a spring, summer, and fall bag. The "leather" trim isn't great, but that's to be expected in this price point. Better than Target, but not high quality. I'm going to keep it! I think it will be great for my needs.

And on the Le Pliage topic, maybe you were given the bag with the shorter handle? They have different handle lengths, and the longer is definitely long enough for a shoulder carry.

@T-Mom: It's tough to find a bag with enough structure to stay upright and still be lightweight!! Believe me, I've tried ;) Anything I could find I'd just pack to the gills and it would tip over if you set it down. I ended up sacrificing structure for lightweight-ness and openness and using my Longchamp. I just placed my things inside pouches that would protect them from spills and had a water-only rule for inside my bag. Our sippys do a pretty good job of protecting from spills (we usually use a camelbak kids) and if we need milk, we buy it on the go from the gas station or whatever.

Do you have the classic le pliage? Mine has very long handles!

@Weagle: yes I second regberadaisy in wanting a review of the top shop bag!
I am also looking for a toddler bag!@mrs. wagon: I know you had given me some suggestions before but I am looking for something ultra lightweight but with structured bottom (to carry sippy cup without spill). I just received a le pliage bag as a gift recently but I just wish it had a longer handle for easier shoulder carry?
@zippylef: sorry I don't have any suggestions for you , but looking fwd to what other ppl say!

I have the Timi and Leslie Charlie, that was a hand-me-down so it's missing the fun extras, but I love it. I get compliments on it everywhere. People are shocked when I tell them it's a diaper bag. And, the stroller straps are a great feature for me. The pewter one goes with everything and feels like a more expensive bag IMO.

I was so PPB-crazed that I found a very discounted Cake cosmopolitan carryall (almost exactly the one in your pic) but ended up returning it. I ordered it from a baby boutique elsewhere in the country without ever having seen it in person, but when it arrived I just knew it wasn't my style. The non-black area is a burlap material, and VERY dark beige. Almost pretty much a medium brown. It just looked so dingy and dark. It appears ivory on the computer screen..! I was so very very very sad because I loved the cake bags. But alas, they all use that background.

I found my Longchamp Le Pliage large tote to be the perfect toddler diaper bag! Once LMW becomes a toddler I'm going to sell all of my diaper bags and get a second Le Pliage in a different color! (I have chocolate brown and it's REALLY beat up.)

I'm not a huge fan of diaper bags, and I realized that I want the option to carry it crossbody too. I just ordered this bag from Nordies.

I've been using my trusty JJ Cole Swag Bag for the past 14.5 months. I love it, but it's starting to get grungy and I really just want to upgrade to something that is more like an actual adult bag, with room to throw in the much reduced amount of paraphernalia I need to carry now that she's a toddler (normally 1-2 diapers, travel wipe case, straw cup, snack container, a couple small toys, sometimes an extra outfit/shirt). I'd love something big enough to carry her stuff plus my wallet, keys, etc and maybe my DSLR if I need to.

I love, love, love, love the PPB Cosmopolitan Carryall or Society Satchel in Black Forest Cake, but I cannot make myself spend $300+ on a bag. I can't do it.

So, anyone want to help me find or recommend me a good transitional bag, preferably around the $100 (less is good!) mark? I might be persuaded to go around $150 if I really love it.

First picture is the bag I have. 2nd and 3rd are the PPB ones I love.
