It was really tough for about a weekend.....i was pretty spent. And then the rest of the week was a little stressful. And then it went awesome.

I hadn't introduced E to a potty before we started, but she seemed to know what to do with it after her first accident. She'd seen us go enough, I guess!

If I were you, given that she's never actually used the potty, I'd do three days of "potty familiarity" and try to get her to understand what it's for. If that's successful and she's into it, I'd try to actually train her. If not then save your battles for the spring!

I trained my first just after 3yo and although it took longer than 3 days, it was a relatively fast process!

@lawbee11: yeah I'm well prepared for the first day to really suck- trying to remember that they won't be "accidents" it's just how she is going to learn. Dh may be less prepared than I am though...

I'm potty training my 2.5 year old right now with a 6 week old and I kinda wish I'd done it while pregnant!

The first day is going to suck. But each day will get better. We did the three-day method and LO was definitely not fully trained by the end of the third day but I'm stubborn and absolutely did not want to have to start over at a later date...I just wanted to get it over with. By day five it was like night and day from day one.

Do it. Even if it fails miserably you'll be no worse off and you'll know you tried. Good luck!

I would try it for sure! We waited until my daughter was 3 and I wish we had started earlier.

@hilsy85: she's pretty easy going- I mean, she is two, so she can be stubborn, but she loves "helping" and doing things by herself. I'm not sure if call her a people pleaser- we gave up on the big girl bed because she just seemed incapable of staying in it and she is back in the crib, even though we promised rewards. She seems really smart (in my unbiased opinion) but I'm sure that can help or hurt in this case.

i would take your lo's lead. Charlie was so easy to potty train and didn't have accidents. I think we could have trained him at 18 months.

We trained Olive when she turned 3 due to traveling, and even then it took her months to be completely accident free. And she still has the occasional accident at almost 4, though Charlie never has.

It really depends on your child so give it a try and see!

What is her personality like? Is she spirited, defiant, independent? Or does she respond really well to rewards and is a people pleaser? If the first, then I would probably wait til the spring--I don't think that's too late at all, she won't even be 3 yet. If she is really eager to please, then go for it! Worst case, it goes poorly and you can try again later.

I think we are going to give potty training my 26 month old a try starting on Sunday. She is interested in the potty but has never actually gone on it- but will say she has to go potty and sit on it while we read books. I'm 28 weeks pregnant, due mid December. I figure if we don't try it now, we are committing to waiting until early spring and that seems a little late- don't want to try too close to baby or right after she is born. So, decent reasons to give it a whirl, right? I read most of Oh Crap Potty Training this week.

But.... I'm so freaking tired from being pregnant and her crappy sleeping and don't have a ton of patience. I'm worried this will push me over the edge. I'll have dh for support on Sunday but after that it will just be me. (We have swimming lessons and other plans on Saturday).

So, help me get mentally prepared for this. Or tell me I should just wait. Or that I'm being a baby and need to suck it up.

Right now I'm committing to giving it three days, and if there is no improvement or she is really resisting it, fine, well put it on hold. (Which is precisely what Oh Crap says not to do...)
