@Mrs. Champagne: we gave tylenol but do not have advil. I noticed last night the tylenol did help cool him down.

Thanks for your help! I will probably have more questions. I just wish I could magically make him feel better.

Cotton is good and breathable and perfect for a fever.

Honestly - I give tylenol at bed time when they are running a fever, and then a few hours later at my bed time, I give Advil. Helps everyone sleep better. I’m not a doctor but I find Advil works better for fevers and night time pain.

It's so heartbreaking to see him sick! Ah!

So he has been running a fever on and off. I'm wondering if I dressed him okay. Hes wearing a cotton sleeper and a 0.2 tog sleep sack. Its 20 degrees celcius in the room.

He is just so warm the 1 tog felt like it would be too warm? It's a micro fleece halo one. The 0.2 is very light weight ergo pouch.

@Umbreon: neither of my boys would co sleep either but both when super sick would lay for brief periods while I was propped up in our bed sitting with same white noise as in their rooms. Or I tried to position myself in the glider to sit up...super uncomfortable. 98% of the time though, they just were in their own beds and us across the hall. I think they sometimes don’t even wake up when they cough through the night and Motrin gives us 6-8 hrs where they are more comfortable to sleep at least.

@muffinsmuffins: thank you. It's so heartbreaking. I got nearly no sleep tonight. We don't cosleep so I had nothing set up but will be better prepared tonight.

I'm thinking a mattress on the floor with no blankets or pillows? He is crawling.

Aw first sick sucks! I would give meds if he’s super uncomfortable. You can run the shower before bath to make it steamy to loosen mucous. Snot sucker if needed, cool mist humidifier, meds before bed. We don’t sleep in their room but do turn up the monitor to be sure we hear them in the night. Set up an area with pillows in case you need to sleep upright somewhere or co sleep if you need. Good luck, you got this!

I wouldn’t sleep in his room unless you’re too worried to sleep.

I would give Tylenol right at bed time as he’s a bit warm, and stick to normal routines! Good luck. Sick babes aren’t fun!

Thanks everyone.

@Sams Mom: that's what I thought I saw, that underarm temp could read lower.

So whether it's a cold or teething he is on the warm side but nothing to be concerned about?

So sleeping in his room tonight is probably overkill and me feeling way over protective?

Axillary temps are lower than normal oral temps. So if baby was at 99° axillary, that would mean closer to 100° oral (98.6° is normal for oral) if you take it rectally, you subtract 1° to get the oral reading.

That being said, a bath won't hurt him, and capping the nap for the sake of bedtime might not matter for his sleep if he's not feeling good.

98.6 is “regular temperature”, but even that is super variable. I wouldn’t worry about anything under 101, and even then I would base it on how he’s acting. I think there’s probably nothing to worry about.

It isn't a fever until 100.2, so I wouldn't fret. Remember that fevers are incredibly useful. The increased temperature helps kill the germs. So unless LO is uncomfortable, or the fever is over 102, you needn't give Tylenol. Just keep LO hydrated. Cap the nap if you are worried about bedtime. Go for the bath unless LO is cranky.

Hello. DH has been sick with a bad cold the last couple days. This morning LO was fussy when he woke.up (hes always happy) and felt warm. Throughout the day he has coughed maybe 4 times total but it sounded like there was phlegm in the cough each time.

His armpit temp was 98.8 this morning which seemed high I think so I gave tylenol. He felt warm again a few min ago and his temp was 99 so I gave tylenol again.

Im putting him down for a late nap right now because he seemed really tired. Should I just let him sleep or cap the nap? It's about 2 hours before we start bedtime routine now.

Should I sleep in his room tonight? Is that ridiculous? I'm a FTM... I'm nervous!

Tonight is bath night, should we skip it? Could that make him feel worse?

He doesnt sound like hes stuffed up. Is it possible I'm reading into things and maybe its teething? 99 is high for a temp right?

ETA: LO is 9 months on friday.
