Ikea bed all the way! DH, LO and I will come over for a baby play date and the two men can put it together. So there's that problem solved. See how easily I volunteer his services?

@MrsTiz: It was a nasty 1970s orange stain/varnish and so scratched up, I got it for $20 and it was shoved into the back of a storage unit behind a really nice consignment store. The store owner said she was just going to give it to her boyfriend to restore, but I bought it instead. I just stripped it, sanded it, used Danish oil and wax on it!

I much prefer #2. I think it would compliment the room and the rest of the house best. And it's definitely more timeless, as others have said. And you wouldn't have to worry about the bedding being an issue.

Okay I feel good about picking number 2 now. I think it flows with your house. Is it too much to ask for a closer picture of your TV stand? I have made myself crazy searching for a Drexel style dresser, soo I'm always curious to see others! Your house is so nice!

@REESE: Thanks! We found a guy on Craigslist who made it for us! It was so random, we were looking at comparable retail tables that were like $2,000 -- ridiculous. So I searched "farmhouse table" on Craigslist and found some 20something guy in the area who had made himself a table and wanted to see if anybody would be willing to pay for one. We told him exactly how big we wanted it and how we wanted it done. It was $400!! And he did it in like 2 weeks. He distressed it a bunch on the top, too -- the kind of aging you pay way too much for ;) It's really well-made and awesome, we get tons of compliments on it.

@MrsTiz: The rest of the house is fairly eclectic. Midcentury thrifted furniture, some antiques, some painted furniture, the rest IKEA. I just kind of buy what I like that goes with what we have, or restore it so it goes. Here's our living room and dining room for reference. I'm not opposed to IKEA, I just kind of feel weird buying a bed from there for some reason!

@REESE: Yeah the IKEA one is basically a cheap version of the more expensive ones I like ;) That's a good point about #1 being easily outdated. It's not a drastic difference between 2 and 3 -- with the bed slats we'd need to get for 2, it'd be $449 -- and #3 is $471.

@Smurfette: Yeah, that's not a bad plan. I know what you mean about having a king, so much of what I like is only in queen! Plus it's so much pricier to outfit a king bed. But truly, our king doesn't even feel big enough sometimes so we would absolutely not be able to do with a smaller bed.

I like #2 the best. I understand wanting to get away from IKEA furniture, but it has the cleanest lines. The first one is a bit "trendier" to me and would probably be something I would tire of in a few years (pending how long you plan on having it). I like the third one too but if it a lot pricier I would still go with #2.

@ladyfingers: Well if you aren't opposed to new bedding, get #1 for sure. It is different, then most beds you see. Then you can do new bedding if the current one doesn't look right.

Bed shopping is hard, esp for a king. I am shopping now, I think we might end up just buying a bed frame for now, so we have something, since I can't find anything else I really like. We need a guest bed for the IL's have somewhere to sleep when they come up when baby is born. Plus I can't wait to have a king.

@Smurfette: Yeah the bedding is all gray and the first bed is gray metal. I was hoping since it's more open it wouldn't be too bad, as opposed to a gray upholstered bed. I'm not opposed to getting new bedding, and would actually like to (something cheap) just to change things out, but I'm not really looking to *have* to do that. Our area rug is gray, too (though I'm always on the lookout to change that as well if I find something great and cheap, but one thing at a time).

We need a king-sized bed, under $500. Our current boxspring/mattress are sitting on the floor, so this has been a long time coming.

For reference, there are 2 pics of what the rest of our bedroom looks like in terms of bedding, wall/floor color, other furniture, etc. We're not looking to replace anything else, just add a bed to the mix.

The first bed is from Overstock. It has been my only option for over a year, as I like it best of anything I've found in our price range. DH likes it best of the 3, but part of me thinks it kind of looks like a hospital bed and wonder if it will "work" in the room.

The second bed is IKEA. I think it would work best of the 3, but it's IKEA and I don't know if we want to get into assembling the whole thing. Plus, I feel like we should be getting away from IKEA furniture at this point in our lives.

The third bed is off Amazon. I think it would work well in the room but it's the most expensive of the three.

Help!
