@Lozza: Aw, you're sweet!! Good idea on airbnb!

Just for the heck of it, I'm pricing flying out of my smaller town, and connecting in Houston (which would save us a 2hr drive, plus gas, plus parking) and its CHEAPER! Every city I try is cheaper by at least 100$!! As much as I don't want to change planes, I think it would be worth it to save the money on the flight + all the other stuff I mentioned. That's a lot of spending money!

And b/c I work here, Philly has some great sights too

I'm in DC and think you should come here :)
If you want beach, you could also spend a couple days in the city and then drive a couple hours to the Maryland Eastern Shore. It might be more "walking along the beach without swimming" weather, but it's an option. (There's also Annapolis or Kent Island or St. Michael's if you want to be around the water).

I'd also recommend checking out the website airbnb.com as an alternate to booking a hotel, as it can be much cheaper, and may be more convenient with a child (i.e., you can look for places with laundry facilities, you'd likely have a full kitchen, you could get multiple rooms if you wanted, etc.). (Hell, if you come to DC, you can stay at my house! :)

@Pink Champagne: that's true! I suppose I'm thinking of march in Texas, where it's already really warm!

So I ran these by DH, and he voted for DC or Boston, and I threw Chicago into the mix. There aren't any direct flights to San Diego :(
DC seems to have the cheapest attractions, but the flights/hotels in Boston and Chicago are much cheaper. So at least I've got it narrowed down; but if anyone can chime in on fun attractions in Boston/Chicago, it would help!

@babyjmama: hehe!! One of these says I'll road trip thru Kansas and visit!!

I vote DC or a beach- and as far as beach bod goes, I don't know that many places are that warm in March for sunbathing... They are more "warm enough for shorts" but i wouldnt want to lay out, ya know?
You mentioned affordable, and I feel like NYC is so pricey.

I love both DC and NYC. Just keep in mind that the Northeast is still pretty cold in March. We can have snow even into late March. If you don't mind the cold, both are awesome places to visit!

@Bookworm: I'm a 4 hour drive from DC and somehow miss the cherry blossoms every.single.year.

We took Chloe last April, when she was 6 months old, and had so much fun! We went to the zoo (free admission, pay parking) and she loved it. We did, too! We are both huge fans of the museums & love walking around the city.

We keep talking about moving there. Less talking, more doing :)

@nana87: @Mrs. Jump Rope: oooh I would love to see the cherry blossoms!! The fact that it's smaller than NYC is a plus for DH; big cities scare him ;) I love all the free museums too!

@PurplePumps: nope, doesn't have to be a big city. My original idea was to relax on the beach, but DH claims his beach bod isn't fit to be seen :p Southwest might be nice! I think it'd be lovely to get away in nature; I've just never been to the sw so I don't know much about where to go!

the cherry blossoms are in bloom in late March in DC, so if your break is then that's a lovely thing to see! I've lived in both DC and NYC and actually prefer DC over NYC (most people find that surprising!)--it's a little smaller and more manageable, but depending on where you're staying NYC can be a little easier to get around--ie, subway stops are closer together, trains come more frequently, it's a little more walkable because there's just more stuff in general. parts of DC can be like ghost towns on the weekend because the downtown is more business oriented, whereas in most NYC neighborhoods there's a mix of business and residential buildings. but I also think DC might be less overwhelming for a trip with a lo than NYC, plus in DC all the museums and the zoo are free!

@Bookworm: Houston has more direct flights anyway (we live in Houston and travel a lot). There are direct flights on United and Southwest to most major cities so you should be good!

ETA: It's still pretty cold in Chicago, Boston and NYC in March. Something to consider with a LO. More bundling!

@LindsayInNY: I haven't been to NYC since I was in HS, but I loved it! From what I've heard, it's great for toting babies around. I guess I'm worried about fitting all three of us in a teeny room!
@travellingbee: I used to go to Boston when I was really little, and I've been to San Fran as well. Both are fun options

The university I work at is giving us 2 days off for spring break this year (yay!), so I decided it would be a great opportunity to take a 5-day weekend (is it still a weekend at that point? :p) and take LO on her first plane trip! Problem is, I really have no idea where to go.

LO will be 8ish months at this point, and we will be taking off in March either Wed-Sun or Thurs-Mon. We live in Texas, so either coast would work.

We went to San Diego/Orange County/LA as a couple last year and loved it, so I was considering going to one of those places....but then I thought D.C. would be fun... and so would NYC....

Would any of you recommend a travel locale for an 8 month old? Bonus points for fun, cheap things to do! Would y'all recommend going somewhere we've been before, for the familiarity?
