2! For sure! An extra hour drive, but then not having to get in the car all the time is worth it! Plus obviously saving $$$.

@JennyPenny: I knooow. But I am like this in general. We went away in Dec of 2019, and for 3 months I was just a ball of anxious thinking what if someone is sick and we can't go, what if there's a snowstorm and we cant go, etc.

We desperately need something b/c I realized school doesn't start till 9/8 here, and camps would have been done weeks before!

I voted 2, 2-1/2 hours isn't bad (we did 4 hours with my then 2 year old and she did great), and the more-inclusive location would makes things a lot easier overall, plus the cheaper price tag makes it a winner.

@graceandjoy: agreed - it SHOULD be ok, but I know it would just make me anxious all summer if I wasn't sure I could cancel. Based on those answers I feel like #2 is the better choice and it sounds like that's what you think too :)

@JennyPenny: Already factored in! That's why it's so much more. And great point; both have ok cancellation policies. Option 1 can cancel 30 days & out but has $100 fee. Option 2 have to cancel 3 weeks in advance if I want a full refund minus $25 fee, or I can get a full refund as credit to plan another trip. This is why I am kinda leaning towards the cheaper option 2. So far, I FEEL like planning for an end of summer small road trip to a mostly outdoors place SHOULD be ok....

I voted for option 2. 1) the price point. 2) it's not that far. (I consider the cut off usually around 3-4h)
I also think that with the kids, you don't really want to put them in and out of the car for each activity. Is that really a vacation to you? Most important is to feel safe though. I agree you should look at refund/cancellation policies...

Hmm, I had 2 questions reading through your choices:

If option 1 is less inclusive does that mean the total cost will end up being well over 800 more if you end up paying for activities and things?

What are the refund/cancellation policies like? The biggest thing keeping me from booking anything right now is still feeling so uncertain so if one of the options was significantly easier to get a refund for that would be a big swaying feature for me.

I voted 2, I think you can handle the drive and unknowns (I do think 1.5 is way easier, get a seat back holder and put on little baby bum or coco melon downloaded to a device! That’s how we survived an 18 hour drive last summer with 3 kids and one was 1.5)

We love a place we drove to where we could walk to all their activities. We last went when our third was about 9m. It was so nice to just walk back when we needed food or nap or the kids were just done. It was a condo setup and I meal planned and went to the store for a big grocery trip at the beginning, kept it simple and it was just so easy! And I love cheaper for sure! You can save it or splurge on something on the trip.

Planning a small end of summer get away is the only thing keeping me going these days  I am really torn between 2 options; so help me decide and let me know what swayed you!

OPTION 1

PRO
- Least traveling time (~1-1.5hr) . My 1 year old absolutely hates car rides so I feel like the less we gotta be in the car, the better. Tho he will be 1.5 by then, things can improve.

- I am familiar with the area already as this is so close to home, so from a Covid safety standpoint, I feel like I am in control and can navigate enjoying this vacation safely

CON
- This is the more expensive option. By $800 roughly. I can still afford it, but obviously would like to save that for next vacation

- This is not an all inclusive kinda vacation. There is a pool and small beach, but we would have to get in the car and go out everyday for activities, so more planning, more schlepping back & forth. Would feel bad for DH who has to chauffeur

OPTION 1

PRO
- The cheaper option!

- This IS a more all inclusive kinda place, so once we get there, we pretty much won't need to drive around unless we want to get food.

CON
- It's the further drive (~2-2.5 hrs)

- I've never been there before, so even though I scoured the internet for reviews, pictures, videos, etc and I do feel comfortable when it concerns Covid safety, ti def gives me just a wee bit more anxiety taking our first vacation since pandemic started to somewhere totally new

So far I am leaning towards option 2. The price tag is definitely the most attractive, and I feel like the cons are not deal breakers and my kids would have the most fun there.

But I also do feel like spending more, staying closer to home, be somewhere more familiar might be easier for dipping out toes back into the world, esp we haven't gone away with 3 kids...
