I agree with just reducing your time.

One day I was just busy during lunch and realized it was 3pm and I hadn't pumped. I felt like I could make it until I got home and it worked fine.

ditto the previous posters.

I EP'd so I didn't have morning or evening nursing sessions, but I timed all of my pumps and would just reduce by a few (like, 2-3) minutes every few days. I would be engorged for 3-4 days after a reduction. After things had settled down a bit, then I would reduce the time again. I stopped pumping all together when I got < 3 ounces per session. I had to hand express every few days (since I wasn't nursing), but then I was done!

@regberadaisy: So I basically did it over a week. Each day was 5 minutes less than the day before. So Monday was 30 minutes, Tuesday 25, Wednesday 20, etc. I was done by Sunday (actually, I probably didn't pump/nurse on Saturday either).

@regberadaisy: I think I just reduced by five mins each time. I could see my output getting less and less. The last few days I pimped only to relieve engorgement. And then just stopped. I was paranoid about mastitis. It wa over 3 years ago though so I'm not totally sure how long it took.

@winniebee: oh, so you're not emptying? I hadn't thought of that. What did you do when you were down to just one session?

@Adira: so each day you reduced by 5 minutes? How long did it take you to completely not need that last session?

With my first, my pump output was nil at the end, so it was easy to get rid of the sessions!

When I pump weaned and was down to one pump a day, I just reduced how long I pumped each day by about 5 minutes (at the time, I was pumping for 30 minutes), until I was done. My body seemed to regulate pretty quickly to the change and I don't remember feeling too engorged after I cut the session completely.

Start pumping for a shorter amount of time - I weaned from the pump (was an EPer) and it took me almost month. I eliminated one pump session a week by pumping for only 10 mins a session and spacing the sessions WAY out.

I don't know why I'm having such issues with this. But I want to wean from the pump and I'm just at a loss on how to do this without being engorged. Currently I pump once a day around 12:30-1:00 pm. We nurse in the morning then again when we get home around 5:30-6:00pm, bedtime and any MOTN wakeups.

Should I start pushing the time I pump later? How many days should I pump at each new time before pushing the time again? Most days I am engorged by the time I pump. Part of the problem is she is very easily distracted and doesn't nurse well in the morning.
And there is some guilt too because she isn't a great eater lately so I like knowing she's getting nutrition from nursing and pumped BM in bottles.

We will still nurse together when I stop pumping.

Thank you!
