@Bookish: You don't even have to put in water! Just dump them in, put it on low, move them around every now and then or the ones on the edges/bottom might have a slightly burnt side, and they'll be done in 4 hours.

This explains it in more detail: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2012/04/hot-dogs-for-crowd.html

Pulled buffalo chicken sliders in the crock pot are also really easy and super yummy. We have a lot of friends who don't eat pork or beef, so we make that often!

@wonderstruck: Ok, so explain the hot dog thing in a crock pot like I'm stupid . Do you just stick them in there with water and heat em up? Like on low? I can't wrap my head around it! Hah!

And yep, buying the cake. Going on Saturday to order it. I'm so excited! Going to get her a matching smash cake as well!

We did hot dogs in the slow cooker - easiest thing ever. You literally don't have to do a thing! No adding sauce, no shredding meat, just put the hot dogs in the slow cooker and leave them there.

Here was our food list:
- Hot dogs
- Toppings: Ketchup, mustard, chili, onions, cheddar cheese. I just set out bowls of all this stuff like a cute little hot dog bar. And I wanted to keep it simple, so I just bought canned chili and heated it up.
- Potato salad (pasta salad works too, though)
- Baked beans
- Pickles
- Chips and dip
- Fruit/cheese tray

Then for drinks we had water (I wanted to make it cute so I got a drink dispenser and filled it with cut up fruit, ice, and water, so it was flavored), lemonade, and pop.

Oh, and do yourself a favor and buy the cake. It will be more of a pain than you're predicting when you're trying to pull together all the last minute details.

@LuLu Mom: I can't in good conscience serve baked beans. I think they are the grossest thing ever!

My boss just offered to bring watermelon, so I'll have that too! I think I'm going to go with the pulled bbq chicken sandwiches. Great ideas, and keep them coming, this thread might help another panicked party planner someday!

Get the cake!

@Bookish: Gotcha. I definitely agree with the crockpot. There are so many things you can make. Go with a bunch of seasoned, shredded chicken and have a taco bar. Do pulled pork sandwiches. Get some italian beef for sandwiches. If you don't want to make it, there are tubs you can buy at the grocery store and just keep it warm.

I'm starting to realize that I really need to get out of denial and into party planning mode. Only 3 weeks to go! ::sob::

Ok, so we are having anywhere from 18-25 people coming, 6 of which will be children. Party is at 11am, and goes til whenever.

We are having (so far):

-Pasta salad
-Chips and queso/salsa

-Cookies
-Cake

-Beer, soda, water

I'm thinking I need a protein or more filling 3rd savory item. I'd like to keep it budget-friendly, and EASY. My dad suggested wings, which I'm considering, but I'd like other ideas. Oh, and her bday is July 4th, so food that is cookout or picnic or patriotic themed, or similarl, would be a bonus.

P.S. Someone convince me to shell out for a fancy (40$) cake. I want a fancy cake, but the cheapo in me is resisting :D
